hi guys

question what would you use for hunting hogs decent sized hogs say 250-300pounds . partion or the ballistic tip.

i was tinking accubonds but i cant get teh 130's to shot worth a darn out of my 260rem.

120 BT are shooting under a inch and same with the SST.
only put 3 partions down range so far

I would go with the 125 gr PT. What cartridge are you using?

I'm strongly in the Partition camp on this one. relatively small bore, light weight, and good velocity spell problems on tough game like hogs with a BT. Get the Partitions to shoot or try E-Tips, GMX, TTSX, A-Frame, Interbonds, or whatever else you can find that's tougher than the BT. Nothing wrong with the BT for white-tails and thin-skinned game, but hogs are decidedly not thin-skinned.

For discussion purposes, here are a couple recovered 6.5mm 125 gr PT's that were shot from a 6.5mm Rem Mag and recovered in the 5th water jugs.

I am not sure I believe your test results if that was fired from a Remington 673 or model 7. Why don't you send me your rifle and I will test it myself!!!!!

Great shooting, those Remingtons will shoot.

Shooters Pro Shop has some 6.5's on sale!!

that 125 PT or even the 140 PT out of your 260 should still have plenty of steam for 250-300 yards easily to swack porkers! I shoot mainly 140 out of my 264, but I wouldn't be shy to blast much with the 125 PT either. It is a fairly high SD'ed bullet that penetrates pretty well from what I have seen.

First, the AccuBond would be good but you have to give them a jump and a good one, don't set them up close to the lands. In most cases a good jump is needed and that has made a world of difference in my load work with the Accubonds. Now that said, the BT in the 260 because of it's length will generally pass through a hog using a 260. The BT will be a killer on hogs in the 260. Now if you want to just always make sure by shocking the hog and then the bullet passing through for sure use the Partition but do not sell the BT in the 260 short, because I used them for that very purpose and never failed to put the five hogs I shot with the BT in my 260 down and I mean immediately down.

Might be a good chance to try out the new 140 BT and give us a field report of them!

Can't beat the price and they have some SD. Likely wouldn't be able to make them come apart at 260 speeds either!

For a lead core, I would tend to go heavy for caliber when it comes to hogs. They are tough buggers. Depending on what the terrain is like where you are hunting. When I hunted hogs in CA it was generally, fairly open and longer shots ( 200 yards +) could present themselves. On the other hand, here in SC, shots beyond 100 yards will only happen on a powerline or farm field, for the density of the flora.

125 Partitions as mentioned before.

I like the 260 Rem. Like a short 25-06.

I had one in a Browning years back. A 100 gr PT or BT at 3300 fps mirrored my 25-06 performance.
