trying to work up some loads for 30-06 before hunting season, wanted to try some partitions and bt's in 150 gr. most shots will be 100 -150 yards and in the neck, i have always been told bt's are just for long range. i was just thinking of 150's becouse thay might open a little faster on neck shots, not to sure if partitions are ment to open fast or not. has any one made neck shots with these bullets? bt's might not be so good on hogs, in florida we can hunt them all year. could it be people say bt's {blow up} becouse thay are using lite grain bullets up close and hitting bone? thanks, chris

They work like magic. Fear nothing and use them. They expand nicely and of course hold together real well.

The 150 gr PT is excellent for deer and bear in your 30-06. It will smash through heavy bone and kills like lighting.
I have used this combo to take quite a few WT deer and a black bear. I always got an exit.

If you want you can probably build a load around the 150gr BT and then also use the AccuBond if you don't like it's expansion characteristics. The AccuBond performs pretty similar to a Partition.

In several rifle that I've loaded for as long as the AccuBond and ballistic tip show the same ballistic coefficient you can shoot either with the same reloading recipe to the the same point of impact. Some accubonds have a higher ballistic coefficient than the same weight BT, but not in 30 cal. Nosler says it is due to more copper in the jacket making an equal weight bullet longer in some cases like the 140 gr 270.

150 grain PTs will perform very well on whitetail. You can pretty well bank on it.

Partitions always expand well at any velocity over about 1800 fps. The front lead compartment will always open up and give good expansion. I do not normally shoot deer in the neck but have shot one whitetail in the neck and the 7mm bullet nearly severed the head at about 40 yards.

The 150 PT would be my choice for deer in the 30-06. Fast and I know they would open up quick and penetrate deeply. Use them with no fear. You will not be disappointed. Scotty

After reading this I'm liking my decision to go with the 140gr PT in my .280. Thanks to Mike, I have some very good QL info to work with!!

If you want to make those 150 Ballistic Tips shoot through the same hole @ 100 yards in most bolt action 30-06s look no further than. 51.2 grs IMR 4064, CCI-BR2 primer, Rem case. It will shoot well with the 150 Partition also but the BT is a much more accurate bullet than the Partition.

While the Partition is never a wrong choice, it is cerainly not needed for deer. I use a 30/06 every year for deer and hogs and all I shoot are 165gr cup/core bullets. You mentioned neck shots, could kill them with a 22LR if all you were taking is neck shots. I did switch to 165gr partitions to kill an elk but feel sure my standard bullet would have killed just as well. Why not try the AccuBond, best of both worlds.Rick.

I made my first rifle kill on a deer using a 160 grain 7mm Partition (first deer was killed with a bow at age 11). I load the 165 grain Partition as an all around choice in my .308 to about 2700 fps. Works perfectly every single time. If you are looking to preserve meat, the ballistic tip is pretty destructive and actually some of the cup and core soft points are as well. I've had some pretty serious wounds from Winchester's Power Point ammo in years past out of a .243 Winchester (strange, I know). Either way, send a Partition into the vitals and rest assured you'll bring the meat home whether it's the 150, 165, 180 or even the 200 all will expand even on deer size game. Best of luck to you :)

It's my opinion, you can't go wrong wtih choosing a NPT in any round, and of which all other bullets are still compared!

I am with you Dave. I stray a little, but PT's are really the back bone of my hunting bullets. Scotty
