New to nosler bullets .
Just curious how the solid base compares to the Partition? The solid base is think is used in the whitetail country loaded ammo ? Im guessing the solid base is more suitable for deer than the Partition? As the Partition is tougher for animals other than small whitetail ? We try to make neck or above shoulder shots . Thats why im kind of leery on the ballistic tip

Welcome!
In whitetail country either would work just fine. I would go with the one that yields best accuracy in your rifle. JD338 and I were just in Texas last weekend for a pig hunt. All shots were under 100 yards. He was using his 6.5 WBY RPM with the 140 Solid base bullet at over 3K fps. He shot a big hog behind the shoulder and found the bullet on the far hide. Bullet held together great.

Most all of our shot are 80-150 yards i was just thinking the Partition would be to tough to expand on whitetail around 100lbs lol

Not at all. Funny you would mention that. JD338's spouse joined us for the hunt. She put 2 very nice pigs down. She was using her 7mm-08 with 140 Partitions at 2750-2800 fps or so. We got videos of both shots. Talk about hammers! Behind the shoulder shots.

I have one rifle that loves the Sierra Game King boat tail soft point and I was pretty impressed with its performance on a neck shot at 100 yards the bullet seem to enter and expand pretty quick dropping him in his tracks bullet did not exit seems like it dumped all of its energy right after entry

Partition bullet seems to be good availability all the time which was another concern if the Partition would act similar to that Sierra Game King or the Whitetail country bullet I would just use that if I'm able to get the Browning automatic that I want this year I may use a ballistic tip in that just to help with did not deforming the tip of a bullet not sure that would make much of a difference

Some gamekings tend to be soft. In my experience Nosler Solid bases are tougher.

Right .. normally always go for base of neck if possible kinda something like this ..

Welcome. You won't have any problems using the Partition on whitetail deer. Have used them successfully in the 243,25-06,270win,30-06 on WV deer, all with good results. Sometimes a little finicky getting great accuracy but always more than adequate. Good hunting.

If its within 1in on a 100 yard zero , on a cold bore shot that's more than enough accurate.

I like that "off switch" photo of yours. Normally I aim lower in the chest on mule deer, going for heart & lungs. But... Years ago there was a big muley doe at about 70 yards in tall grass covering her legs and nearly 2/3 of her body... Hit right about where your diagram/photo shows, with a 405 grain Remington RNSP at about 1650 fps from my Marlin 45-70. Talk about a doggone off switch... Bullet buried itself somewhere in the hillside beyond after going through both shoulder blades and breaking the spine. Too much gun? Maybe, but actually didn't damage much meat with that big bullet moving slow.

Oh back to Partitions vs Solid Base. I like them both for deer sized game. The front section of the Partition bullet is actually pretty soft and expands readily. But the Solid Base is a terrific deer bullet. I've used both - though the Solid Base bullets I used were from earlier versions. Not sure how different today's bullets might be from the ones I used on both deer and black bear.

Regards, Guy

It definitely drops them right there . We have shot a bunch there but seen as hell Remington does not make the core lock bullet available for reloading I'm forced to try until I find something comparable it sounds like the Partition bullet is going to be very similar but better with having the rear of the bullet encapsulated where it can just push through after the front expands

The Partition bullet kind of sounds like a two in one.. good fast mushroom and expansion up front with a solid core to push through bone if needed

Partition bullets are tremendous and they NEVER fail. Actually, even when they shed their front part, which happens frequently, they still have that rear half that keeps driving forward. I use to use them exclusively but have gravitated away from them due to cost. I know, I know, bullets are the cheapest part of any hunt but I digress.

I only hunt deer and pigs and don't need a Partition bullet for my hunting style.

I am using Sierra bullets along with Hornady SST's right now but I did buy some 308 cal Solid Base to try in my 308. Shot really well. If you put any bullet into the heart and lungs of an animal things end real quick. That area where the neck drops into body is a great area. Just like already mentioned, it's an "off switch"

Good to hear , ill agree that thay cost more . But for me , if it means my wife gets gets her once in a life time deer . Ill pay for it , I already got mine. Its her turn . Plus we are trying to put meet in the freezer cause thats our primary source of meat durring the year other than a little beef chuck and chicken . We try to keep our meats farm or wild fresh . Along with our garden we keep year around with other local farmers goods . We grew up on farm land and intend to keep eating that way ! We dont even buy eggs or milk lol closest thing we buy from stores are soft drinks and crownroyal lol . Have some Amish people here that make bread.
Anyways lol...
Im really hoping to get a browning BAR mk4 this year . If i do I want to load Partition and the ballistic tip for it .
My wifes rifle currently likes the winchester power point bullets but im not impressed. It did the job but on inspection it only left about a nickel size wound through the ribs . Granted it was poor shop placement as it was her first deer but I would prefer to load it with a premium bullet which is why I was leaning towards the Partition like you said if the front half expands and sheds weight rapidly and the core keeps pushing it would possibly just keep pushing through bone

Welcome to the forum. Both the SB and the PT are excellent bullets for WT deer. I have used the 165 gr SB in a 308 Win and the 140 gr SB from a 6.5 Wby RPM to crush MI late season deer. As Fotis mentioned, the 140 gr SB from the 6.5 Wby RPM at 3050 fps absolutely hammered a couple of TX hogs, DRT.
I’ve also taken many WT deer with PTs in several calibers and bullet weights. They crush shoulders with ease and always exit. I’ve even taken a couple of 200 lb bucks with the 338 RUM and the 250 gr PT. Internal trauma was extensive and both bucks were DRT.
