Hey guys. Santa brought me a Pro-Hunter 28" barrel in .223rem with a 1-12" twist for shooting predators & whistle pigs with

Time to get some supplies to start working up loads. I was wondering about bullet selection. I would like a bullet that will kill but not kill the pelt as they will be sold. Santa brought me some varmint grenades that I plan on trying but was wondering about the 40 and 50 grain Nosler BT and pelts?

Thanks for any information!

I have had good luck with the 50 gr BT in my 22-250 on coyotes. Exit wounds through the ribs is about the size if a nickel.

Do they put the coyote down quickly? What kind of acuracy are you getting out of your 22-250 with 50 BTs?

DRT.

My 700VLS shoots in the .5's.

What powder are you using? So far I've worked up to 34 grains of Varget and I'm less than impressed. I've even seated my bullets around .020 from the lands. Kind of scary because hardly any of the bullet is in the neck. This is my frist 22-250 and just looking for a little advise.

My 22-250 Rem load is as follows-

50 gr BT
36.0 grs Varget
W-W case
Federal Gm210M primer

Shoots in the .5''s from my 700 VLS

Try seating your bullets a little deeper.

I'm with JD if your attempting to save hides. I've had decent luck with the 50gr B-tips pushing them as fast as I can & the 40gr B-tips. Generally find a lot of decenegrated bullet on the far side skin.

We no longer keep hides and I've switched ( sorry ) to the 55gr Blitz-Kings and Viht N-140 powder. This is the second barrel on my 22-250 and it's always shot in the .5's as JD was saying. This gun is kind of like my Amex card !

I've used a lot of IMR-4350 as well, but that also put a huge flash out the end of the barrel of which the N-140 does not.

Keep playing with it and you'll find the sweet spot.

I am going to try the 60 gr BT, if it will stabalize in my 700 VLS's 1:14 twist.

Let me know how they shoot. I just bout my first pound of Varget mostly to try in the .260 but would certianly try it in my -250

Powerstroke

Will do, I have a box orderd. I hope they will shoot in the 1:14 twist. Nosler told me that they wil so we will just have to try them out.

I'm with you on the Muzzy's too, they Rock!

I've shot a lot of coyotes with the 40gr BT out of my .223 and can't remember seeing a large entry or exit hole. I love the 40gr BT out of my .223 (accuracy and killing).

Thanks guys. I really need to get on the ball with this. Waiting for my annivsary gift (Sportsman Warehouse gift card  ) so I can get some dies, bullets, powder, etc.. etc...

Well 36.0 grains of Varget with GM215M primers, Nosler brass and Nosler 50 BT in my 22-250 did the trick today. Shot a group of 0.531, I think that I can live with that.

Picked up some Tac and some 40 grain and 50 grain Nosler BTs yesterday. They were out of Nosler brass though and had to buy Winchester. Prepping those cases made me sure miss Nosler brass.

Now you are ready for coyotes.

I'm very excited to get out. I'm really want to camo paint my rifle but the weather is not warm enough yet, but soon. But I'm not letting that stop me from going out.
