Pick A Scope

I would think the Swarovski or the Zeiss would be hard to beat as far as low light capability out of the optics mentioned by OP, I have both of the optics above but have yet to find another optik that comes close in low light to a Swarovski !! I have 5-25 Z5 and 3.5-18 Z5 and I think either 1 of them would fill the bill nicely!!
Buy once cry once :)

Thinking about putting an HD5 on my Model 70 25/06 too.
I like the rifle and caliber and there's no denying it's very accurate. Just might use it on deer instead of the .300 unless I can get a load worked up for the .300 Win Mag that shoots 0.5" groups or better at 100 Yards. The .257 gives me that all day long with 100 grain Partitions.

The HD5 should be a nifty scope. They are being made in Germany. I think that the 3-15 would cover all the bases?

The 2 3x15 HD5's I have seen so far have been awesome. Thinking pretty hard on one for another rifle. Also, SWFA has the 2.5x10 Leica with turret right now for a very good price. That is also a top contender.

Man, it is a hard decision to make between these two scopes with German assembly pricing on the Conquest. This brings the Conquest pretty close to Leica on sale. Given this pricing, I might have to try a Leica! I have never owned one old (made by Leupold) or new style. I need to find a store where I can actually "A" to "B" them, side by side.

No problems recommending the HD5, but if the price were similar, I'd likely go with the Leica. I need one more scope, and I'm looking at a Zeiss, though I'll likely go with another Leica. You won't be hurt with either, but I'm truly enjoying the Leicas despite the fact that I have a much longer history using Zeiss.

The Leica is a great bargain down here. The 2.5x10 with ASV turrets can be had for right around 1000.00 if bought as a demo from Cameraland. I know I was really gunning for one till I found the Swaro, but I imagine I will "need" another scope before too long..

You would not be in the least disappointed in the Leica, Scotty. It would serve you well.

I like the 2.5x10 range and being able to dial it is even nicer. Probably make a good one for a 280 as well?

I would imagine so. I have a 2.5-10X42 on my 7WSM and a 3.5-14X42 (with ASV) that will go on a .284 when it is delivered.

That was always my downfall, seeing a really good scope on sale that I could not live without. Then having to buy a rifle that suited the search for another rifle good enough to match the new scope.

Ain't that the truth, Charlie.
