I had just settled on getting another Sako and then I found 2 others that interest me.

Left hand Sako 85 270 Win (thanks Lou for the checking you have been doing :) ) Love Sako guns very useful caliber.

NIB old stock left hand Weatherby Ultralight 7mm Wby Mag $1795

NIB Ruger No 1 B 270 Weatherby Mag $1095

Both of the Weatherbys would be pretty rare in a NIB especially the 7mm Wby and the prices are what you would expect here in Canada. I was only looking for pricing on the Sako when I found these ones, when it rains it pours I guess

Going camping and will be back Monday and see what you guys think. Either of the 270's are great since I got lots of bullets in that diameter but the 7mm Wby is too good not to consider.

(BTW if anyone wants a lefty Model 70 300 WSM let me know and I'll get you the info)

I'm currently infatuated with the 270 Bee. Especially now that Nosler has come out with 150gr ABLR. At 3100-3200fps and a BC of .625 it makes a long range monster. I have two; one in a 1B and one in a Model 70. The 7mm Weatherby would make a great hunting rifle as well.

How does your No 1 B shoot Scott? The LH 7mm Wby Ultralight hasn't been made for years on the 257 and 300 these days.

Can't afford all three :)

My 1B is a special rifle; It's been refinished by Doug Turnbull and is a real beauty. I've had 130gr NABs at 3440fps down range staying at about .75". The gun is completely stock. Haven't tried the 150ABLRs yet. I'm saving them for the Mod 70; which is on the way!

Gerry, I found a LH Sako, but not in 270 caliber, I'm still working on it for you though pal :) ..He does however have the tikka in .270 and .270wsm.Take your time, and make the right choice, trust me, in the end you'll have no regrets, Lou

Lh Weatherby Ultralight in 7mm Weatherby cartridge is the BEST choice there for you ! JMHO

Cheers :) RJ

I can only tell you that the No. 1 270 WBY is a pretty rare rifle. I can't say I'd even consider the others at all.

Talk about a tough choice to make!
I think I would go with the 7mm Wby. Lots of bullet choices.

That Ultralight 7mm would seem to be a great rifle. Light mountain rifle with the ability to sling the heavier bullets too. Pretty versatile cartridge.

2nd choice would be the Sako 270 though. Just hard to beat a good 270.

I don't know enough about either one to help make a decission. I perfer .30 cal rifles because of the selection of bullets and factory loadings. So of the two calibers I guess the 7MM would be the most use full but the 270 would be more readily available over the counter. If it was a 7mm Remington it would be my choice only because of available ammo. If you are a collector than choose the Weatherby.

Man.... I love the UL MkV. Some of them are shooters. Some....er...not so much. Don't really care for the 7WBY either. Not that much more (if any) than the 7 RM and high dollar ammo and brass.

The Sako is a classy gun in a really classy cartridge....

Decisions, decisions.

I'd have to take the Sako.

gerry, the 270 win in the Sako would be a great choice then if your lovely wife continues to hunt she has a rifle to use . How ever the 284 calibre has such a wide variet of bullets to choose from.
I am sure you will make a good choice no matter what you choose.

Blessings,
Dan

We have 7mm Wby's in almost every configuration made except an Accumark. The collection even includes a Sako in 7mm Wby. Having said that, the 7mm ULW of my Dad's has taken antelope at 500+ and 800+ yards. It might do it again this year too; we will have to see.

The price you post is definitely not a bargain price, but I suspect you could go a lifetime and not see another in LH configuration.

This is thread I like..When some is about to get a .270Wea or some needs to be talked out of buying anything else but a .270 Weatherby magnum  .

Gerry!.

Go get that No1 now!.

muleman!. Slick rifle..!.

Seems like all three rifles are very nice. As I'm right handed and also collect Ruger #1's, well you know which would be my choice. If I were left handed, I doubt any one chosen would be a mistake but discounting the #1 I'd be looking at the 7MM. I've een playing a bit with the 7x57 and .280 Rem so the Bee would be a logicl step up for me.
