Hi all

Myself and a friend both intend to visit the States and/or Canada next year to shoot Moose, Elk and Caribou. All suggestions as to where we might go or who we might hunt with would be gratefully received.

As we will both be travelling from Ireland we will not be in a position to take more than the pictures home we don’t need to shoot the best trophies around. We would be much more interested in a genuine hunt and wilderness experience.

Thanks

Hugh

Down here in the lower 48, caribou are almost unheard of. Moose are few enough that in many places a fellow has to draw a permit for them. In the U.S. you should look to Alaska for caribou & moose. There is some good moose hunting in Maine I understand, but I've never really explored that option as it's 3,000 miles from where I live in Washington, and we've got moose here.

Elk are pretty common and there are open seasons for them in most western states every fall.

Regulations vary from state to state. For elk, Colorado has a huge population. There's also good numbers of elk in Wyoming, Montana, Washington, Oregon and Idaho. Some real whoppers down in New Mexico too. Not sure about Utah.

You might consider hunting mule deer or whitetail - they're not as big as the caribou, elk & moose you've asked about, but it's much easier to get a license and tags for them.

Sounds like you're in for quite the trip! Regards, Guy

British Columbia may have the opportunity to hun elk and caribou at he same time in northern BC. Check with the BC Outfitters association.

Check with areas near the Liard River, Muskwa River, Coal River Sikanni River areas. Shouold be outfitters in those areas that you may be able to combo hunt.
