Well, in preparation for the upcoming 150 ABLR's release, hopefully shortly, I decided to try some RL25 in my 270WSM, I have some great loads using RL22 with the 150 BT's, PT's and PT Golds. They all run right at 3100, pretty steady, with 65.5/66 grains. I wanted to see if it was possible to get a little more speed with less or equal pressure.

First off, RL25 seems really good in the 270WSM guys. I was a pretty big fan of RL22 and the WSM and still am, but RL25 seems like it gets equal or better speeds with less pressure. Just looking at the history of primer flattening with this rifle and RL22 loads, RL25 looks pretty danged good.

I only shot three groups at 200 yards, just to get an idea of speeds and how accuracy compares with my RL22 loads. I am pretty impressed. Pretty sure, if I wanted to sink them together, a few thousandths would suck the 3rd shot right in.

Overall, I am ecstatic about it. I can't wait to see those 150 ABLR's. If those shoot nearly as well as all the other Nosler offerings, they are going to be awesome. If they turn out to shoot well, I may carry it as my backup to the 338 this Fall. Speeds look excellent and I am sure I can get up to 3100 without leaning on the WSM hard at all.

Very nice Scott. Almost 270 Bee performance there.

Some very fine groups and velocities are being produced there. That'll work for me.

Fotis, what does a 270 Wby do with a 150 Normally?

RL33 offers even more speed with the 150's but right now, I can't see gaining enough to matter. If the new 150's shoot, they will be serious long range bullets. I'll run the numbers again but I'm thinking it was close to 1500ftlbs out to 700 or better.

What rifle are you shooting these out of Scott? I have an extreme weather m70 and best I could do with 150gr interbond is 3060fps. Could just be the barrel is slow. What primers are you using I have only used fed 215gm so far I ladder tested with H1000 but didn't get the speed over 2950fps so I switched to RL22 and at 67.5gr I have very faint ejector marks and speed is at 3060fps and groups at 300yards are a little under 1moa that's just me shooting im sure it would do better at 100yards but I wanted to test at 300yards for the ladder test.

I think a guy was getting an additional 150fps in a 6-284 on LRH and around 100fps with a .300RUM. You'd like it Fotis. In my gun it's about the same accuracy as Retumbo too. Powder Valley just had some in the last week. You missed out.

Scotty, hopefully it will be a simple drop in substitution for the new AccuBond LR bullets, looking at the speeds and groups which you are currently getting with the 150 grain AccuBond. Now it is just "hide and watch" until the new LR Accubonds become available to test?

Danny, my usual load is 65.5 of RL22, 150 PT CCI250, and WW cases. I'm running these out of a M70 with a 24" barrel. I use 66 grains of RL22 for the 150BT. Both of these loads run around 3100-3120.

You might have a slower lot of RL22 as well, so I wouldn't worry too much. Looking at the accuracy and speed I'm getting with RL25 I think it's even better with a little less pressure as well.

RL33 looks really good with the 270 and 7mm WSM for the heavier bullets and QL says there is some more speed to be had as well. I will try it when I can grab some for sure.

Charlie, I'm hoping it is just a bullet switch and accuracy maintains. If not, I will work at it a little as well. This rifle seems to shoot everything pretty decent so I'm not seeing many problems.

Scotty

Pretty good performance you have with the 270 WSM.
I think the 150 gr LRAB will be a winner for sure. Hope its plug and play for you,
although you may have to tweak the COL.

Hi Scotty, thank you for the test it looks like RL-25 is a real winner for the 270wsm.
I will be passing it on to my cousin who just picked up a 270 WSM :)

Blessings,
Dan

The .270 Weatherby Mag factory load with 150 Accubonds is quoted at 3245 fps muzzle velocity. This versus about 3150 fps with the .270 WSM and versus 2905 fps with the 150 AB in the .270 Winchester.

When are we supposed to get our hot little hands on some of these? These and the 160 7mm mag AB's?

I just ordered the LRAB for 270 - 150gn from Cabela's yesterday. The web site shows in stock!
The order has a recieve date of July 10th.
I loaded 150 PT with RL17 and my Sako 75 shot 3050 and a buddy who has same gun shot 3125. No pressure signs. Same powder load with 140AB shot 3175 in mine and 3225 in his. Go figure on the diff.
We have Elk Bull tags this year and were going to use the 150PT but if the LRAB 150 shoots as good then that's a no brainer to switch for the added BC and set turrets for up.
I've killed deer with the 270WSM at 500yds with pass thru and golf ball size exits but I'm not sure I would go much beyond on an elk. Maybe if All conditions were perfect and I could slip it into chest broadside ..... I just have not been around longer range elk kills yet. I saw a 338 - 210 PT take a cow elk at 450, perfect bang flop but there is a diff between 338 - 210PT and 277 - 150PT, but then again a shot in the boiler no mater the gun will get you an elk.

Back to the LRAB / 270WSM - I will have loads made up for the following week end and report back on ease of development, vel and etc.

I've got a box of them Charlie. They are some slick little buggers.

If I could get my hands on some RL33 I'm betting I could close the gap on the WBY factory speeds a little too. VN570 looks better yet, but just harder to find.

I'm pretty excited to work with them a little.

I just got 500 of the new LRAB from shooter pro shop really interested how they will shoot in my rifle.

Got a pile ordered this week from sps. Also have a bunch of 270Weatherby brass ready to load. 7828, Retumbo, and Rl-33 sitting on the shelf.

Scotty, I bet that RL33 would boost the performance of those bullets. Hopefully it will be out soon?
