I need some help on choosing my new LRM primers. I see a lot of loads with federal 215 LRM primers and I finally ran out of CCI 250 primers. ( I bought a case of them back in the great primer fammin of the early 90s) I remember reading an article way back when, that compared the reletive "hottness" of the different brands. What are your preferences and does a comparisin chart still exist? :?

All I can say is that the fed 215 and the Win mag are the hottest. I think that the Win is the hottest of all.

Ditto what POP said.

I have simply settled on the Federal 215M primer for all my magnum primer usage.

The Federal 215 was developed for use in large capacity Weatherby cartridges and provides plenty of fire. I simply have not use the Winchester large rifle magnum primer, but understand it is plenty hot!

I have found that the 215M gives me better groups than the standard Fed 215 in SOME guns. In others it simply did not matter if I used the Fed 215 or Fed 215M.

I can assure you there is a difference! Loads that were perfectly safe in my .338 Win Mag using CCI 250 primers were too hot using Fed 215 primers. They do produce more pressure, without a doubt!!

Just settle on one brand and stick with it and you will be fine.
