Would like to know what velocity/loads at 64K using the 120 Barnes TTSX and a 160 NP out of a 26" barrel? I told my smith when he cut it to start there. I would have had the rifle by now but the Surgeon moved wife's last "tweaking" surgery on her reconstructed bosom. Told him I didn't need the rifle until early April. Any help please? Thanks

Yup! A 160 grain PT launched at 3000 fps packs a punch. My personal preference is for a 140 grain pill from my 7 Mauser. It will handle about any game I care to tackle. Still, that 160 PT is going to leave a hurting on about any animal.
I'm running a 150 gr. Nosler Partition at 2880 FPS from a 22" Winchester M70 Featherweight and 2850 FPS from a Ruger #1A single shot. I have some 160 gr. Speer Hot Cores and Grand Slams and may give them a look see as well. I think that 150 gr. load will work just fine on a fat cow elk. I'm getting too darned old to be lugging a heavy hard kicking rifle around.

Boy it’s hard to get an 30-06 over 3100 with 150gr bullets.

Well "I heard that"! haha Thanks pard. It surely does say its another humdinger. Only time I worried about how long my barrel was when I hunted in box stands, etc, back in Texas. Just "out hunting" never had an issue. Being a tall man, I like the 24-26" barrels, I feel they balance better for me. Shotgunning? A 26" barrel is just right for Upland for me too.

I've been working with RL17 in the 7x57 for some time. With the 150 gr. Nosler Partition I get 2883 FPS using 49.0 gr. RL17 and bolt lift was showing signs of being just a hair stiff. It didn't help that the temperature that day while at the range was somewhere between 105 and 110 degrees. I dropped back to 48.0 or 48.5, don't remember which for about 2800 FPS due to the heat. I figure the 49.0 gr. load should be OK hunting at sub-freezing temps. I seriously doubt I could come anywhere near that 51.3 gr. load in any of my 7x57s. Using the 2880 figure of my load and adding 25 FPS per added inch my rifle might do 2980 FPS which I suppose is close enough to 3KFPS to work.
I only have one bolt action rifle with a 26" barrel, my M70 .300 Win. mag. My M70 .338 Win. mag. has a 28.5" barrel due to the added muzzle brake and while I really don't like the cartridge, I haven't found that barrel length to be a problem in the field. I don't use it much mostly because the darn thing hurts me every time I shoot it. Something about the snappy kick when I shoot. Most of my 26" barreled guns are Ruger #1s. I could put a 30" barrel on them and they'd be no longer than a standard bolt action with 26" barrel. I think I'll just leave them be as is and call it good.

I really wanted to know what the projected velocity was the most PJ, you sent me your "secret sauce" R17/150 Recipe via PM awhile back, ha. On a side not: I just got one of those fancy hydraulic FalconStricke recoil pads for my new to me 338WM, I'll let you know how well it works! Hopefully I can get out there next week and touch off a few.
