QuickLoad questions thread...

I've had my 280 the better part of 20 yrs. It will shoot just about any bullet/powder combo but it really has an infinity for the 150 gr Nosler and the 154 gr SST's. My 280 has caused the demise of roughly 80 to 90 SC whitetails over those yrs. Most of those with 150 gr Nosler bullets.

The 280 is my favorite cartridge..

6.5 Creedmoor.

140 Hornady ELD-M, 140 Nosler RDF, 147 Hornady ELD-M.

RL-16

2.890 OCL all bullets. (feeds well in magazine though I can go as far as 2.915). Hornady brass.

Bullet lengths are: 140 ELD, 1.374. 140 RDF, 1.420, 147 ELD-M, 1.440.

The Tikka T3x CTR appears to have a much longer than normal free bore (.199 standard) and jump to jam rifling is 2.950 for 140 ELD, 2,991 (140 RDF), and 3.009 (147 ELD).

Your help is much appreciated!

that still gives me a velocity threshold to aim for.

If you have time you might run one of the bullets at 2.890 and /or another at 2.915???

Might be interesting to see if it gains us anything.

2.80 OCL still useful for alot of other shooters.

How do you get the data tables to post correctly on the forum. When I try to copy and paste the data it loses it formatting. There is no spacing between the columns.

Thank you, DrMike. I couldn't figure it out last night. I was trying to respond to someone's request for QL projections but the data lost it's formatting. This looks more readable.

Thank you, DrMike. I couldn't figure it out last night. I was trying to respond to someone's request for QL projections but the data lost it's formatting. This looks more readable.

loads or exceeds maximum suggested loads as presented in current handloading manuals. Understand
that all of the listed powders can be unsuitable for the given combination of cartridge, bullet

Hi Dan, thank you for trying to do that for me. Can I ask you to do a QL for same as above but with RL26? I notice Dr. Mike put a filter on the over all tobonly show powders with 90% starting fill rate. It eliminates a lot of powders that we’re lower in performance. I’m not sure I follow the physics on that point. Maybe Dr. Mike might comment.

Thanks Mark

Here you go. I also posted it with your original post since I wasn't sure where you would look for my response.

Here you go. I also posted it with your original post since I wasn't sure where you would look for my response.

When I go to select a cartridge from the QL cartridge list I often see a "CIP" option and a "SAAMI" option. I don't know what "CIP" means. When I have the option between the two, which one should I choose?

Dan

CIP (Commission Internationale Permanente pour l’Epreuve des Armes à Feu Portatives) is the European equivalent of SAAMI for overseeing cartridge standards. Pressure measurements conform to reciprocal acceptance of proof-test marks on firearms and ammunition safety standards according to agreed European standards.

Thank you, DrMike. I appreciate the help in my education.

Well I finally broke down and bought QL. I didn't get the Quick Design but I may if I ever get time to play with more wildcats.

Good job Nathan.
QuickDesign is pretty handy. Especially for wildcats as you mentioned. Kind of a cool way to pre-test one to see if you need to buy that reamer.

I have so many parts laying around now to build guns I doubt I'll mess with any new wildcats any time soon.
