Made it out to the range today. I worked on some 180gr AB loads using Federal#215, and CCI#250's. I have already worked up a load using CCI#250. So I started at 70.5gr for the Federal primers. Seems like the Fed 215 are a good bit faster, but not near as accurate.

70.5gr H4831, Fed #215, 180gr AB, 2873fps.
71.0gr H4831, Fed#215, 180gr AB, 2908fps

71.5gr H4831, Fed#215, 180gr AB, 2938fps

72.0gr, Fed#215, 180gr AB, 2958fps center
72.5gr, Fed#215, 180gr AB, 2962fps lower

73.0gr, Fed#215, 180gr AB, 3005fps

73.5gr, Fed#215, 180gr AB, 3020fps

73.0gr, CCI#250, 180gr AB, 2923fps

73.2gr, CCI#250, 180gr AB, 2932fps

73.5gr, CCI#250, 180gr AB, 2951fps. 2 shots in the same hole (upper hole). Then I had a flyer low. I'm not really sure if I dropped this round, or if it was a true flyer. I may revisit this one again just to see. If not 73.2gr of H4831 will be my load.

Keep seating deeper. I'm betting they would continue getting better all the way across.

Your 73.2 looks great. Hope it repeats.

Here's a quick pick from the range. It was a nice cool morning with temps in the mid 60's

How far would you seat deeper? Would you try going in .002", or .005" increments?

I'd go .010 at a shot. It'll give you a better idea of the changes and once you find the spot they wanna shoot they have a good window where they'll work.

Seventy-three point two is certainly a promising load. Scotty has given you some excellent advice. However, the load you have will definitely do the job.

I also would go .010 deeper for 3 groups while keeping the powder charge the same. When your groups lose the flyer and all 3 shots are pretty close, then I'd either go in or out .005 until you hit the node.
At this point it's my opinion that seating depth is going to be more important than small changes in the powder charge.

What kinda rig ya shooting? It is sure getting close to being a tack driver real close!! H4831 has been doing great things for many years!

It's a Winchester M70 Black Shadow 300wm. It's a New Haven, CT rifle that I traded an old Glock for last year.

Sweet looking rig and you are really close ! I have a 300 WM that needs some attention myself, picked up some RWS brass for it recently and I guess I will use the 190 gr ABLR's to work up a load! Also have some Nosler Brass that I will work up as well ! Never been on the picture end of a Model 70 that I can remember?
