I will be heading out to Montana later this week to spend a couple days making red mist  ! Jeff has graciously helped out with a spot to shoot, so I have spent the better part of the weekend getting bullets loaded (hope 1000 rounds gets me through the weekend). The old #1 in 22-250 needs a new barrel now, but will get used one more time before it is re-barreled this summer. The model 21 Cooper only has about 4000 rounds through it, so it should be good for a couple more trips. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we have some nice sunny days to enjoy ourselves.

I am truely jealous! I have always wanted to go on a PD hunt. Someday it may happen for me. Best of luck to you.

That's impressive my friend! Looks pretty cool with all that ammo and those fine looking rifles next to it! Enjoy yourself!

Wow, now if that isn't an excuse for a progressive i don't know what is! Very awesome Joel. Hope you guys have a great time out there.

Looking good Joel!
Have a safe trip and a fun time making red mist.

Don't let this leak to the news media. With that amount of ammunition stored at your house, you could be considered a psycho, or something. Joel, I'm impressed of your dedication to preparation. You won't be short when you find the PD town.

Man, that looks like loads of fun.

How does that old saying go... " Red sky in the morning, prarrie dogs take warning"

Have fun guys! Scotty and me hope to get out one of these days. Red mist for everyone

"Red sky at night prairie dogs take flight!"

Way to much fun! Enjoy yourself.

Well, no wonder we havent heard from you lately...... Nose to the grind stone huh? Gas money man. And now you'll need money for more "buwwets" and barrels when you get back. Have a great time. you know how jealous I am. Stay safe, have fun. CL

Man, that sounds like a lot of fun. Good luck and remember to take lot's of picture of the carnage.

I would love to do it someday. 6 Varmint rifle and thousand of bullet just gathering dust in my safe. :( :(

I'll be heading out later today to make a dent in their population. Mine are pretty tame, so a .22LR works pretty well.

Mike -
I'm sure alot of us could be considered "wack-jobs" by todays media  . I consider this weekend my contribution to the farmers and ranchers of Montana who need some help keeping the p-dog population in check  .

I am looking forward to meeting Jeff and learning how to do some long distance shooting as well. There will be lots of graphic pictures taken of the event!

I have told you and Scott many times, a good prairie dog town and a couple accurate rifles, is the most fun you can have with your clothes on! This is great distance training for all of us that live in areas where there are objects (trees, etc...)that we use to judge distances when we hunt.

Joel,

Enjoy. I do believe Jeff has his act together when it comes to that long range shooting. Maybe we'll be able to share your shoot vicariously as you post a few pictures.

Someone like you that does a lot of distance shooting would thoroughly enjoy this! This is the best "instant feedback" on how well you are dialed in that I have ever found. The way the wind blows and having to make distance calculations can help sharpen anyone that shoots small objects at long distances.

I love big game hunting, but it is usually one or two shots and than the work begins. A good dog town gives you the opportunity to shoot hundreds of times in a day, and the "field dressing" has already been done!

should be a good time joel i think i will bring the 30-338 along also bear season is right around the corner and prairie dogs dont care if there hit with a 22 6.5 or a 30 cal anyway. the only problem i can see is you getting a chance to use a nightforce, then you will have to get a couple.
