First Happy Birthday to John Nosler Senior.

My question is:What is the recommended velocity for the 300 grain Nosler in .458 for the .450 Marlin/45-70 leverguns?I have seen pressure checked load data from Rick Jaimeson in the .450 Marlin Guide Gun at 2330 fps and ofcourse more for the longer barrels.

Was the 300 grain Nosler Partition in .458 diameter designed for these new velocities the modern rifle/leverguns are capabale of or for the SAAMI's of the 45-70?

Thank you from a long time Nosler user in several calibers.

I would imagine that getting it to expand at a low velocity would be the problem. I doubt that you could get it going fast enough to make it over expand.

The 300 Nosler in 458 expands easily at the lower velocities the problem it has is at the higher velocities loosing it's front part at the higher velocities impact. Here is a sample of the .450/45-70 fired at maximum velocities out of the Marlin Guide gun.All loads were pressure checked in a PSI barrel.

Which brings me back to my original question. What velocities was the 300 Grain Partition designed for in the 45-70/450 Marlin leverguns? Is it the SAAMI of 28,000 of the 45-70 and it's velocities or is it capable of the 43,500PSI/40,000 CUP of the modern leverguns aka the .450 Marlin and Modern 45-70?
