And like that... poof, the shelves are empty.

I was a bit amazed how in one day, the online vendors went from fully supplied in almost everything, to being backordered on just about all the primers.

This sort of parallels the rush I saw on Saturday that cleared primers out of my nearby big box sportings good stores.

Hate to say it, but if you haven't already stocked up, might be thin pickings for awhile. Just glad I was able to top off my stash.

There is a lot of uncertainty resulting from the squealing of liberal politicians (from the Mayor of NY to state representatives and senators to federal legislators and the President). Uncertainty induces a reactionary response, and not necessarily without reason. I would anticipate that until there is a resolution to the current rumblings (from the media as well as Congress) that the supply of components will continue to grow precious. One response that is evident is the surge in gun sales that began immediately following the news out of Newtown (e.g. http://denver.cbslocal.com/2012/12/17/cbi-deals-with-massive-influx-of-potential-gun-buyers/; http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/12/18/gun-sales-surge-after-connecticut-massacre/).

I know I bought all the powder I could afford after the election. I suppose I need to find some primers now too.

went to my local store,

Not 1 pound of powder, smokeless or otherwise, no primers and 2 boxes of bullets.

The lady behind the desk said they're limiting people on how many .223, .308 bullets they can get at one time.

she said that they sold 30 plus guns since she had been there about 6 hours. mostly .22's simi automatic rugger. Somthing about them be labeled "assault" weapons.

didnt the kid steal the guns anyhow? what a sad story, now made worse by this gun issue.

I bought powder today and the store had plenty of supplies. Thought about primers but I am more worried about the ones I have going bad, not having enough!!!

I keep them in a sealed type dry box in a cool place like my basement, with desiccant and oxy-sorb packs. Heat and humidity are the worst enemies of primer storage. Refridgerator's and freezer's are natural dehydrators also if you have an extra or room.

This same thing happened when Obama was elected the first time. Plus, I believe that he put the squeeze on primers and powder which were really hard to get. Primers went to $80 per 1000 from $25. I just got a bunch of ammo and bullets this week.

I ordered several boxes of .380 Kurz yesterday because last time you could not buy .380 for nearly two years! They have shipped already so I won't be backordered. I have a .380 Bodyguard which I carry in my leather jacket's secret pocket inside. It is small and does not show so my wife does not know that I am carrying. She wants it this way (not to know).

Just put my order through. Plenty of .30 155 CCs, IMR4064 to keep my match rifles running for a couple of dry years. Had to buy an odd brand of primers. Only CCI milspec and Sellior and Bellot LR primers in stock. I know they make good ammo and brass so I'll hope for the best with them.

Sitting good on hunting components, I can tone back the shooting on those if need be. I still remember the last shortage and begging a fellow shooter for 55 primers so I could shoot the next match. Don't want to go through that again.

Grafs still has a lot in stock, but anything suitable for loading .308, .223 or 7.62X39 won't last long. I'd order tonight.

I decided to pile it a bit deeper and picked up more at Bruno's tonight. They still had a pretty decent pile of Federal and CCI if anyone needs them. The rate they were going out though, I wouldn't wait more than a day or two, or you'll likely be out of luck.

So this may be off topic, but it just bafffels me.

did you know that "assault" type rifles were illegal where this shooting took place. didnt seem to stop this guy. the guns were stolen from the mother of the atacker.

also the same day a man in china stabed 22 people with a knife.

i hate how when something as terible as this happens and the first thing out of some people mouths are "we need gun control" Makes it awful hard on a honest hardworking law abiding man to enjoy his sport when uneducated people get caught up in mass histeria

down to 2 lbs of powder and 100 primers :( and not happy about it.

my prays are out to all the familes, dont mean to sound insensitive god knows im the biggest softy when it comes to kids.

"down to 2 lbs of powder and 100 primers"

Good Grief Man! I don't think I've been there since 1985!

That's how I weathered the last component shortage, by always keeping a decent stock on hand. About the only things I'm not well supplied with are small pistol primers (rarely load .38, .357 or 9mm) and brass & bullets for my .223/5.56 AR-15 - but it usually eats factory ammo anyway, and I've got a reasonable stash of that on hand.

Normally keep 8# jugs of my three most used powders on hand: Varget, H4350 & Unique. With those I can actually make good loads for all my rifles & handguns.

As I read these posts about the shelves going empty I thought, "ah heck, that is not going to happen here in Colorado Springs". I heard that they were so busy at the stores they were not taking calls but only call back numbers so I decided to take a trip this afternoon.

Well....... ""poooof""
Primers are all gone except shotgum primers. I luckily saw a bag of 7mm Rm Mag cases so I grabbed them. Aside from a couple of bags of 45-70 cases and a few bags of handgun cases... all gone... I grabbed the last 5# of RL17. They are emptying powder at a fast rate as well.

Aside from what I grabbed, I have plenty of everything else to keep my 3 rifles shooting for this coming year, enjoying fun time at the range and hunting as well.

So sorry to the guys on here that didn't get stocked up. It might be the same or worse than what it was about 3 years ago.

Well reality has hit our small community. Based on the posts here I went back today to pick up a couple more pounds of powder. The simi full shelves of two days ago were now scarce. I was able to pick up a lb of H-1000. I still have a couple of pounds each of 4350 and 3031 plus the RL's that I bought earlier this year. So I am good but in 6 months I will probably be looking hard.

"Thanks for the heads up from you all "

I have enough IMR 3031, 7828 and 4350. I am short on IMR 4064 which I use for both the .338 Federal and the 9.3x74R. I need to buy a couple of pounds of IMR 4064 if I can find it. I possibly can use 4350 in the 9.3x74R and have a load for testing.

I have plenty of bullets and primers. I have been taking advantage of the year-end clearance sales on bullets and brass and am pretty well stocked at the moment. I also just bought some more Federal Magnum Match 215's last week.

I ordered more 40 S&W ammo which I have and .380 ammo which I am waiting for. I notice that Graf's is out-of-stock on .380 and .22 LR ammo already. I hope that this component squeeze does not last two years like the last one?

I stopped by my candy store yesterday and picked up a couple bricks of LR primers. The shop keeper said they have seen a small increase but not any kind of crazy run on components yet.

We aren't witnessing any run up here, yet. However, it is only a matter of time as the various bans are bruited about by Senators, Congressmen and Joe's crowd before we will see the supply chain begin to be choked.

The only thing I'm running short on right now is Bullseye for my 45. I called the place I get my powder at and and he's cleaned out. He's going too hold a couple pounds of it for me as soon as he gets some more in and I called this afternoon and got more 45 bullets ordered.
