Pick up a bunch of 160 gr ABs for the 280 Rem. What a great looking bullet.
Loaded some tonight with RL-19 & IMR 4381. Will see how they shoot later this week.
I also have some 150 gr E-tip and 160 gr Gamekings. Will see want shoots the best.

The 160 gr AB seems like a great bullet for the 280

Might want to try 7828. That's the ticket with the 160 and 175's should be able to push the 160's close to 3k. It is a great looking bullet I'll have to post some that are in my AI on here.

Never fired any out of the 280 Rem, but they work really well out of the 7mm WSM. They are pretty high on the BC for a good hunting bullet. Can't imagine you will have much trouble getting them to shoot for you. Good luck and post up your loads when you can.

I'd be interested in seeing the results as well. I'm currently working on a load for
140 gr AB's and was thinking of bumping up to a heavier bullet next.

That is a good looking bullet. I've got a couple boxes of them squirreled away from my 7mm mag days... A long & slick 7mm bullet has much going for it afield. Very effective, and the .280 can move it out at a good clip as well.

The 160 gr AB in the .280 should be a winning combination. In the past I have used RL-22 with good results as well.

I haven't used many 160 grain bullets in any of my 280s, but I've shot a ton of 139-145 grain bullets. In the past when I was working with 160-162 grain bullets, I used quite a bit of H414/W760 with good results. I've had good success with 150s at various times as well, using W760, IMR4831, RL19 and H100V. With the 150 grain E-Tip, I had excellent velocities and accuracy with VV N560.

The 160 A/B out of my 280 revs up to 2950 fps. which sounds way too hot, but, I found the load in the first Nosler reloading book and I have no pressure issues and it's very, very accurate. IMR7828 . It puts me at 280AI levels and I saw the same bullet and velocity mentioned as a favorite for the 7mm Rem mag. in a magazine article by Ron Spommer. It brings out the best of the 280s capabilities. IMO

I used IMR 7828 SSC in my .280 Rem, Browning and got a chrono'ed 3009 fps (mean) from (5) shots with 58.0 grains of IMR 7828 SSC, 160 grain AB and a Fed 215 Mag Match primer and W-W flash chrome cases. Primers were slightly flat but not completely and bolt lift was normal. I fired about (2) boxes of these handloads at about 80*F in a warm rifle, last summer with no issues. This was in a 22 inch barrel, so a 24 inch should be faster maybe? This rifle chrono's 2950 fps with Winchester Supreme CT 140 grain factory loads.

Will let you all know how the group. I am shooting a Rem 700 XCR.

Looking primary for the accuracy load.

My accuracy with this 160 AB at 3000 fps was about 3/4 MOA for 3-shot groups consistantly. I hope that it shoots as well for you as it did in my Browning.

The 7mm 160 gr AB is an excellent bullet. It has a BC of 0.531 and delivers deep penetration with extream accuracy.

Oldtrader - Hope I get groups like those. Great PNW black bear bullets. Maybe even an elk here and there.

Cheers

Orchemo, absolutely, I sold this .280 Rem to my grandson as a special deal, one rifle fits all. It has done him for one deer and five hogs so far and is elk ready, if he wants.

Took the 280 out today to try some 160 AB and 150 E-tips.

I had loaded some various powders behind the 160 AB and 4831 seems to be the best grouping powder.

I had loaded two different lengths of 150 gr E-tips and the shorter ones grouped much better. See picture

Will add a little more powder to the E-tips, but if they consistently shoots like this, seems like a good option for an all game bullet? Or should I continue working the 160 ABs?

From the bullet test shown on this forum, seems like the 150 E-tip would be a good choice for most any game?

I certainly like the 150 grain E-Tip, and if it is giving you good accuracy, I see no reason to look further. The 160 grain AB will also give you good terminal performance if the accuracy is there for you. Nevertheless, I do like the E-Tip.

That is definitely a really nice group, good going. That bullet will certainly do the job and the accuracy seems to be there. You may wan't to try some 160 PT's just for kicks and see what you get but there certainly is nothing wrong with that 150 gr E-tip group. Did you chrono it?

No chrono today. Will chrono next week.

Also shot the Rem 673 in 350 RM. Two groups of two with 250 gr Hornady. Shot the first two, then adjusted up the scope for the second two. Who says the Rem 673 can't shoot 250 gr bullets?

Think I will be sitting on blackberry patches in August/Sept waiting for Mr. Black Bear

My 673 chambered in 350 RM shoots exceptionally well. Here is a sample with 200 grain TSX. It has accounted for elk, moose and black bear.

My records show similar accuracy with the 250 grain Hornady SP.

Nice shooting! The 280 Rem with the 160 gr AB is there.
Did you bed your M673? Mine was inconsistant until I glass bedded the action.
Now it is a tack driver, the 130 gr AB shoots.
