I'm only 99.0 % sure, but Sportsmans tonight had what I believe was a .257 Weatherby in their SPS Stainless model......? Remington's Site hasn't changed for decades it appears, but I'm not seeing it other than the CDL & Limited Edition models.....

Anyone ??

That's the gun I've been looking at for a little while, I'm thinking a lighter gun in 257 would be a great antelope rifle. The SPS is also a decent amount cheaper then the other two also.

That's the one I want. 26" barrel should get all the speed that the cartridge has to offer. If I get one, I'll see how it shoots from the box, but it may end up in an aftermarket stock, maybe McMillan.

Just so happens I "have" to go back that direction today....

If it's not too busy I'll get the details....

Thanks for the input

BK,

YEP... found one... SPS model with a $ tag of $569.00 I think it was..... hmmmm.. how much talking to the Finance Adminatrator here am I going to have to do ???

I would like to get the Special Edition M700 LSS 257 Weatherby but I know it will cost me 4 new Kitchenaid stainless appliances!!!!!

JD,

I didn't want to hear that..... I pulled the trigger....I now have my first Weatherby Cartridge.....The Finance Admin here blew me away and said go for it.....( now I know there was a motive behind it ) Dang it, been married long enough now I should have seen that one coming.

I do see a stock for it at some point, but no time soon... post some pics a little later....

That link is it.....The Manager was a little upset... didn't even know that had it... sounded like they just brought it out... it'd been in the back since June.

Congratulations on your 257 Wby. The warden gave me the green light on my Kimber but it also cost me a new couch and love seat!

I've been eyeing the 700 LSS for a while but I am going to wait a bit.
Looking forward to your range report.

Happy New Year!

I've been looking for a lighter rifle to carry.... the Sendero wears on me after a day or two. I think this will fit the bill....
I looked at purchasing a box of ammo for it.... then walked over, found one box of 110gr A-bonds left on the self ( SCORE ) !.... A couple of boxes of brass left.....purchased one box... and a set of dies... came out about 10 bucks more than buying one box of loaded ammo....
I know this is the wrong area, but any sugestion on loads for this animal ? of course with the 110gr A-bond.....

Second issue is the scope.....I took the Zeiss off my RUM for right now, so I have the 4.5 X 14 available for it. I also have a straight 12X Leupold sitting in the safe..... or take the new 6 X 18 LRDV off my VTR and put on it ??

I have been eyeing the lss since they released the catalouge last Januarysince I have a 270 wsm lss to match but then I see the cdl fluted and really like the classic look of it so I dont know which one to get oh well cant afford either of them right now anyway congrats on the purchase

my vanguard shoots really well with W-W 7mmRem Mag brass after I neck it down to 264 win, FL to 257 bee and turn the neck down 0.0015" Shoots 1/2 MOA with Sierra HPBT 120 grn. I grabbed the sierras because they were the cheapest heavy bullets I could find to fireform with, the form loads were very accurate and I shot a deer and yote with them too. Performed quite well, but the BC was only 0.350.

Load was Fed 215gm, IMR 4350 58 grns to form and 60grns to hunt. Velocity was 2975 with the form loads and 3165 with the 60 grn charge. ES was 20FPS most strings, got a couple that were 80, but would attribute that to charging error. 4350 is not the finest grained powder, sometimes you know it's not perfect and either use it or dump it and try again.

Please note that these loads were not in wby brass!!

I appreciate the info. I have a lot of IMR - 4350 and figured that is what I'd start with. I have some R-22, 25, H1000 & Viht N165 / N560 to play with. I think the bullet selection will become my toughest decision with this one.
Find a good one with the 110gr A-bonds I was able to grab or go for the 115gr B-tip or possibly the Berger VLD's.....hmmmmmmmm Can't wait to just get out and shoot it.

I do have to say... after going through it, cleaning it etc these new Remingtons are no where the quality or have the pride in their workmanship as the years past.
It's almost difficult to read the " F " & " S " on the safety.

Just add a few aftermarket goodies little bit at a time. Jewell trigger, Bell & Carlson or Boyds stock, PTG bolt with Sako extractor, When you get the bolt get the action trued too, maybe a PacNor SS barrel......... Be a totally different gun with less invested or about the same as a Weatherby and shoot the ears off a flea @ 500 yds
OK, might not need all that stuff, The trigger would be great, but timney sells a good trigger for alot less too and the Xmark isn`t terrible. The stock isn't that bad, might need bedding or a final fit. The bolt is ok, but Rem 700's are known for getting cases stuck if you hit alot of pressure. At least you can offer these `reasons`to you significant other when negotiating the timeline on which you are allowed to customize......

I will be attending a RMEF banquet in Feb and they have the same rifle in a progressive raffle.
I might have to buy some tickets and cross my fingers.
