Remington buys Montana Rifle Co.

Aside from poor quality, my biggest issue with Remington is what they did to Marlin. They MBA'ed it and stripped Marlin of all its skilled employees by firing them. The end result is that they screwed up the best old time manufacturer of lever action rifles left in this country. The Winchester 92 and 94's are made in Japan now. The new Marlins are rough and are a crap shoot as to whether you get a good one. Hooray and thanks Remington!

And that's the tall and short of it. When pencil pushing bureaucrats look only at the bottom line this is the ussually result. I think this is one of the reasons company's like Nosler, Hornady , and Berger are doing quite well in the current market place. Family owned and run with some integrity and purpose with quality being more importance then just the bottom line. My 2cents.

G'Day7 Fella's,

Yes it is pretty bad what Rem did to Marlin but apparently, that is Globalisation!....?

Double Doh!!

Used to be a dyed in the wool Remington guy but not anymore. I like the rest of us work really hard for what comes home in my pocket every two weeks. I have done an about face since 2008 and you will not see another new 700 purchased by me. I have discovered that I like another rifle better and they fit me better and that's who gets my money now. Not to say though that I would not buy a used 700 that was from the good old days of Remmy but not a new one. The bean counters will only be able to ride the past glory for so long before they start to circle the drain in sales. Perhaps if they had a single clue as to what works and what to chamber and proper twist rates for excellent cartridges but then again they aint shooters or hunters for the most part so oh well. Lets see how they shoot once the barrel thing is rolling.

So Cerberus owns rem and a bunch of other firearm manufacturers. They recently said they want to divest of the firearms business and say its up for sale.....but in the meantime they buy up more!?
Something tells me there will be a unfortunate ending to this story....at least for the consumer.
