I know these guns are somewhat dated but my dad has 2 a 300 hh and a 270 he used to have a 30.06 too but sold it many years ago. Now until recently I thought there was only one other caliber the 264 winmag but I see according to the remington site they also did a 280.

I could see myself trying to collect a set of these but just how hard to come by are the 264s? And for that matter the 280 as I have never ever seen one anywhere.

I know there are probably things outthere more desireable to collect but there is a sentimental value to myself as that old hh has put a few bucks down

I would post on "wanted" in the GunsAmerica list. Also on Auction Arms and GunBroker. Those rifles are out there and the sites that I mentioned and others will locate them for you.
If memory serves, the Rem. 720 was the short action model. I had one in .243Win. years ago. At least I think that was the model.

The short action version of that gun was called a Model 722. I was given one for Christmas when I was twelve years old. It was chambered for the .244 Remington. It had the 1 in 12 twist and would not shoot heavy bullets. Heck, I shot everything with 85 and 90 grain bullets, they never knew the difference. I still have the gun, but it was rebarreled and restocked long ago.

Thanks for remembering. Yes, you are right of course, it was 722. Dad had one in Rem. 222 and killed uncounted numbers of groundhogs in Md. and Pa. I wanted it, but when I left for the Army in 1961, Baltimore County was beginning to get tough on rifle shooters, so Dad sold the 222. That was a great round, that got overrun by the 223Remington.
From what I read, Stoner used the Rem222Mag for his original AR15, but the military wanted their own, so they tweaked the Rem222Mag just enough to change it and ended up with 223Rem. or 5.56mmNATO

yeah I almost bought a 722 in 257bob at a pawn shop once but didnt need itso I passed yep same gun just a different length action

so has anyone seen or does anyone have a 721 in 280? I have seen a few 264s but know they are harder to come by but never seen a 280

When Americans were not buying rifles chambered in calibers designated by "mm", Remington introduced the 7mmRemingtonExpress, which failed to sell. They reintro'd the same cartridge as 280Rem. Touted it as the 270Win slayer and it has sold well. Probably does edge out the 270Win, but not enough for me to get rid of my M70 270Win and buy a 280Rem. Anyway, I have never seen the Rem 721 Rifle in 280Rem or in 7mmRemExpress. That said, if they were made in any numbers at all, they should be somewhere, for sale, on the internet.
A while back, I hankered for a Jap Arisaka in 6.5Jap X 257Roberts. This was a popular conversion of the 6.5mmJap chambers for a while, when a lot of returning US soldiers brought home Jap rifles and could not get ammo. I found the rifle on GunsAmerica and still have it, with the dies. So I hand load the cartridges, just for fun.
The Type 99 Jap Rifles were closer to 30-06, with 7.7mm bore. So with those, the gunsmith simply reamed the bore out to accept 30-06 cartridges, which worked okay. No great accuracy, but then most guys shoot deer within 100 yards anyway.
Hope you find an M721 in 280Rem.

I have an old 721 in .270 winchester. It is a shooter with the right loads.
