Hey guy's got a quick question for you all. I am looking at the Remington sps tactical and the Remington sps varmint in the 308 winchester. This gun will be used in all types of conditions and will be used to shoot out to 1000 yards. I know the varmint one has a 26 inch barrel and the tactical has a 20 inch barrel. What are your thoughts on these two rifles? I have also been looking at the savage tactical rifles because I love the accuracy right out of the box. I am going to be putting a Vortex Viper scope on this rifle as well.

The longer barrel will give you a little more velocity which may be critical at distance. The shorter barrel will be handier to carry in the truck or in your hand. Two different critters with two different strengths.

I have the SPS V in 243 and the Tactical in 308. Both are great shooting rifles but the finish sucked until i Duracoated them. The next bolt gun i get will be the Savage 10 Predator Hunter Max 1 in 243. My buddy has the same rifle in 22-250 and i really like it. We took it to the range two weeks ago to get it sighted in. I think it was five or six rounds to get it right and he shoots the next three in one ragged hole! Less than ten rounds down the barrel and he shoots three shots in one hole! No more Big Green for me!

How are the accuracy with comparing the two? are they the same, or is the tactical more accurate?

I think the SPS V has a slight edge over the Tactical. One of the guys i shoot with has the SPS V in .308 and it shoots almost as good as my .243. Its gonna come down to the barrel length you want. The 26" SPS V is long and heavy but you will lose about 150-200fps with 20" Tactical. Don't overlook the Savage 10 Predator Hunter in .243 for 1000 yard stuff. I like the idea of a .243 with 105gr custom comps or AMAXs for long range shooting over the .308 with 168s.

I have a Remington 700 SPS Varmint in 223rem. with a 26" barrel. Have the trigger adjusted down to 2Ibs. very accurate. I have a Bell & Carlson Medalist M40 stock on the way to replace factory stock. For 1000yd. shooting I would opt for the 26" barrel.

I have a 700 VTR in .223 - somewhat close to the tactical version short of the plastic fantastic stock and tri-angle barrel.
With that said - hmmmmmmm - It's a handy carry rifle is all I can say.
