I've always loved wood stocks with stainless barrel and action. I'd been thinking of putting on a wood stock on my .280 and I finally gave in and called Ruger. I knew that I could not pick my stock but I did ask the lady if she would put a note on my order that I wanted a darker colored stock.

When I opened the box I was floored!! In all honesty, this is the prettiest stock I've ever had on a rifle and I am so thankful to the Ruger employee who made sure I got a dark and very nice stock!

I had the action bedded and the barrel freefloated. Unfortunately with 100 degree temps I have not wanted to get out and shoot it but once and that was simply to boresight it at 25 yds. I do plan to put some 140 AB's down the tube and get it ready for my antelope hunt in WY.

Scott,

Man, that is a beautiful stock. It will look even better with a 14" speed goat.

They did a beautiful job on that rifle. It is certainly a looker, Scott.

That definitely is a really nice stock, you should be pleased :) Looking forward to seeing some field photo's from this fall with that nice 280 and an antelope.

I just recieved a Ruger Hawkeye 6.5x55 and the wood is just about that nice. A friend ordered a Ruger hawkeye in 6.5x55 and he got a real nice stock also.

Mighty purty, and a .280 to boot!
Amen to that Kurt. That thing is beautiful! Who says Ruger doesn't build a nice looking tough as nails rifle? I'm with Kurt on this one too! 280 Remington and I've got the vapors again.

Good luck on your antelope hunt. Any idea what powder you are starting with. The 140 gr. AccuBond will be awesome and I hope your rifle puts them one right on top of the other.

That is an outstanding looking rifle!

The Hawkeyes I've seen in recent years have been very good rifles, fully worthy of a high quality stock such as that. Sweet. That rifle is a keeper.

Very nice rifle indeed. You scored on that stock. What bullets you going to shoot and plan on taking on your hunt? A few years back I had the same rifle just about, but was the MKII with the boat paddle stock. I gave it to my brother and that is his go-to rifle. I'll witness him put it to use next month on our caribou/bear hunt shooting 140gr Accubonds.

Let us know how that rifle shoots when the weather cools down enough for you!

Scott, your right, that stock is BEAUTIFUL!!! Man, that is a very sharp set up right there. Looks very very good. Great job.

Great work on Rugers part as well. That is a solid looking set up right there. You'll have to PM the details of the transaction, my Wife's 308 could use a nice upgrade like that! Very nice!

Thank you all for the kind words! I've had the rifle about 2 years now and she is a shooter. I just wanted a wood stock instead of the black plastic stock that comes with the Ruger. I almost did this last year but held off until April.

I called Ruger and gave them my serial number. They needed that just to make sure they gave me the right stock. As mentioned above, the nice lady I spoke with said they usually just pull a stock from an open box and it is a pot luck choice since I can't see them before hand. That is when I asked her to put in a note for a dark stock with some pretty grain and character. A week later a box showed up and that is what was inside it.

I took it to my local gunshop and had them bed it and free float that barrel. They charged me $140 to do both and they seem to have done an excellent job.

Here are some previous targets with the original plastic stock. Hopefully it will shoot just as good for me.

Those are certainly enviable groups, Scott. They will stand you in good stead.

I think I remember seeing them groups before Scott and man, that is very impressive shooting for an Air Force Zoomie!

I can't get over how nice that stock looks though. It is VERY nice! I think that rifle and you are going to become great friends over the years!

That's a beautiful stock, Scott. It looks like it works well on that rifle, too. No worries for you - plenty for the deer/elk/antelope/coyotes, though!

Ok now....us AF guys (zoomies, wingnuts, chairforce, etc) can shoot too! I did get wear the expert ribbon with bronze star while I served.

And congratulations on that. There are some fine riflemen in the Air Force, and we can each be glad for that. Having said that, I do like your Hawkeye. I have two (.358 and 35 Whelen), and I do like the stock on them. The .358 shoots better than it should, and the 35 Whelen was okay, but I really like it now that I've rebarrelled it.

Scott not only a beautiful looking Lady but she is a shooter as well
Life does not get much better than that

Blessings,
Dan
