Rifle for Dylann

You already have a youth model Rem 700 in .243 Win.

Isn't this exactly what that short, lightweight, accurate, light recoiling rifle is for?

I vote for the featherweight that can be grown into. Big fan of the 7-08 as well. I had one once, but had to sell it as it was a Remington.

This coming from a guy who shoots Savage's. Pffffff come on man.

Touché good sir! I take a lot of flack about my two savages, but man do the dish out dirt naps! They might not be the best looking thing, they do shoot damn fine.

But Remington's will look better and shoot better. I got plenty of rifles that will prove it. The sloppy fall apart bolts and ugly receivers won't out shoot a Remington with a good barrel. You can get Jewell triggers for the Remington's too. Jewell tried to make them for the Savage and had too many problems because of the sloppy tolerances.

I got one of them ugly Savages too...ain't pretty...but it shoots straight.

As of the other day...don't own any Remingtons anymore...have had some good ones over the years, but the last 5 new ones ruined it for me...

I'll just stick to model 70's from now on...actually don't plan on buying anymore guns at all...I have all we'll ever need.

Lol...true enough...but I think I mean it this time...unless I find a good deal on a model 70 for my youngest son...he's only 7 but they grow up fast...he's the only one in the family that doesn't have a Winchester...I do have a sweet shooting Savage 243 though so he does have a good rifle when the time comes.

We all have a dependable hunting rifle, a few 22's, a shotgun each, carry pistols, 3 black rifles...about all we need...unless I decide to swap out the Savage....I really am done buying guns...I don't love or enjoy them any less, I have just reached a point where I am so damn particular about what I'm willing to buy...its getting expensive.

Bear in mind....I never said I wasn't gonna build any guns ;)

Yep, you nailed it Guy. I have already started with some light 80 grain BT loads for that rifle. I will pull it our shortly and see how it shoots. I am looking forward to her getting behind the little rifle and shooting.

I am pretty excited to see her shooting some more.

But I thought you said you shouldn't let kids like Remingtons.

She won't like it. I crossed out the Remington and scribed XTR on it.

Come on man, did you think I would let her know it was a Remington...

If you got a TIG we can fix that!! Burn that Remington right out then carefully make a stencil and scribe Winchester into it!!!

I'd get the standard FWT 7-08 and a spare synthetic stock to cut down and let her paint up like Fotis did with Anna. Given that her daddy is a pretty tall guy, I'd bet that standard stock geometry will work for her when she grows up.

I always thought I would get a McSwirly in Nolan's choice of colors, but the dang kid is growing so fast that I think he would be too tall for it before I received the stock!

Wish I'd seen this before I worked over the T3 for my grandson last year. Sweet little rifle.

Soon, I will have to buy another for another grandson.

That's not such a bad thing. I know you enjoy working with them little hunters and we all enjoy the heck outta seeing them downing animals!
