Well spending time with my 280AI over the last couple of weeks she has really cemented my need for it. I will be talking to my nephew next week regarding my 270win in the CDL and if he does not want it I will be placing it up for sale . I am also going to place my CZ 527 American in a 204 on the block. Neither rifle is going to be given away but I will not attempt highway robbery either.

Blessings,
Dan

Just to satisfy the cravings of someone who is pulling out hair, stumbling around grumbling "280 Ackley", and otherwise nearly in a state of frenzy as he awaits the arrival of his own 280 AI...could you elaborate on why you feel this connection to said rifle?

In one of the 280AI threads if that is more appropriate...don't mean to hijack this one.

Quite simple each time I pull the trigger the holes get closer together . I shot it twice to foul it when I got to the farm & the bullets were touching.
The experts state that the 284cal could be close to perfection & the more I shoot it the more I am believing it .

Blessings,
Dan

Yes I can't wait to see the photos of both of your rifles.
Now if I can talk you into looking at the 35 Whelen 8), I believe with the 280AI and the 35 Whelen you might have North American game covered !!

Blessings,
Dan

LOL...

I will say this for the Whelen, if I were interested in a rifle for hunting anything bigger than elk at any range more than 100 yards (such as big brown bears)...I'd say the Whelen would be my first choice...I have a 45-70 for the short range work.

But as Guy said a while back, and I thought he said it well...there is no desire in my heart to kill a bear....he was talking about black bears, but for me it covers any species of bear...I grew up bear hunting, black bears, did it every year for about 15 years, put a few in the freezer too...but not my freezer, I don't care for bear meat...and the guy that I was hunting with, and giving them to, passed away several years ago now...and I haven't hunted them since.

That is to say...you don't have to ell me on the Whelen, I'm sold...I don't generally care for big magnums, the Whelen is about as powerful as I'm willing to go for a medium bore...I just don't have a use for one anymore.

I think it often sounds like I'm recoil shy when I say stuff like that...I'm not...I can shoot just fine with hard kickers, but I've learned I'm human (think it comes with age, lol)...and I shoot better with "little" guns....not saying the Whelen is a hard kicker, just that a 338 WM isn't much fun for me.

I expected my model 70 30-06 to be the last rifle I ever bought...and it would have been if it hadn't been for a bad choice in gunsmiths...I'll be more careful with the 280AI, if it ever needs any kind of work...it'll go back to Nosler! I trusted them to build it, I'll trust them to fix it if I ever break it...any big game I hunt from here on, will be hunted with the 280AI....and I'm in nearly going nuts waiting on it

I have only called to check on it 1 time though...doing my best to not interfere with the fine folks that are making it happen...they can't build rifles and talk on the phone too, lol. When I checked he said it may be November...one thing is for sure, its closer than it was 3 months ago!

Are you sure Guy said that? Last I heard he was mourning the fact of the lack of bear snacks in his freezer!

Scotty I have not completely decided yet. I think it's going to come down to the rifle being in my mitts and looking at different scopes at that point.

Got ya. Can't wait. I know your rifle is going to be one of those perfect mountain rifles when it is complete.
