Rimfire....22WMR or 17HMR?

I have a .204 Ruger. Problem is varmits around near the house. The .22 WMR does not make nearly as much noise.

In my experience, the 17hmr is excellent for skittish starlings. But one of the 17 grain TNT bullets either blew up on, or was deflected by, a crow's wing and didn't make it into the body at all. It's been awhile, but I'm thinking the range was somewhere in the 120-150ish area. At impact, the crow let out a loud "caw" and rolled over, but righted itself and started hopping away a couple seconds later; dragging its mangled wing. I had to chase it down across the field and finish it off. The follow-up at probably 30ish yards didn't have any problems, but that first shot sure makes me nervous about trying it again in the future...

I have decided on a Henry lever action 22 mag (round barrel)...

I kinda got side tracked on that 17 Hornet, it is a neat lil round...but its just too much of a good thing for what I want/need it for...and I'm partial to lever actions here in the eastern woods :)

Hard to pass up 12 rounds of capacity with a solid 100 yard range...
