Just worked up two great loads for my 325WSM one with R19 the other with Magpro. Are either of these powders known to be temp. sensitve?
Thanks for any input.
Scott
Ball powders tend to be somewhat more temperature sensitive than stick powders. While this is a general statement, it is worth holding in the back of your mind. Knowing that you are planning on a trip to Namibia, I would caution whichever load you take with you, don't leave it in the sun. If you are not tickling the dragon's tail, pushing for the last ten fps from your load, holding the load to a max (or even slightly below max) charge, you shouldn't have serious problems with your load. The only times I have witnessed serious problems are when people have pushed the envelope, developing the load in cooler weather and insisting on shooting a "hot" load in hot weather. Generally, you shouldn't have a problem, provided you recognise this possibility.
I have used RL19 and MagPro in loads developed in cold weather, shooting them during summer weather (in northern BC, admittedly) w/o problems. I confess that a hot day here might only be 25 C, but the loads have sometimes been developed and tested at -25 C. As I say, I am more concerned for accuracy than I am for velocity. If I am even 100 fps below maximum velocity in cold weather, it is simply insurance for shooting in hot weather.
