There is a guy on a canadian forum that I frequently visit that has a Ruger #1 in 416 Rigby w/leupold 1-4 VXII for trade (wants a SS 300 WSM) or $1100 Cad. It looks to be in really good shape, but I have absolutely no need for a 416. I imagine it would be a real hoot to shoot and not really terrible expensive for brass, $40/20??

I love #1s and I really want a .416 Rigby, but the one I want is a CZ. That being said, a big boomer #1 sure would be fun!

As an aside, I was once talked into taking a buddy's .458 #1 on a doe hunt. Didn't see anything when I was packing it, but it sure would have made a big hole if I had!

BK, I shoot the CZ .416. What an absolute joy. If a heavy thumper is what you're lookin' for, get one. 400 gr PT, 102 gr RL22, open sights, 5 shots in 6" at 100 yrd. Can't wait for Africa...

JT,

Want is a good enough reason. Go get it and post some pictures.
Notice that no one here will try to talk you out of it.

My name is JD338 and I have an addiction.......

The Shooting fund has taken a beating over the past two months. Between the Canadian Fireams Restricted (handgun)course and permit applications for my wife and I, which was $110 for me and $220 for my wife(rifle and handgun). $80 apiece for the applications fee and $100 for a family range pass needed to get hanguns(need a reason, NOT self defense in Canada).

So we are at $590 Cad in getting our permits. And then we need to get some toys...... Will update that when the permits come in, will be another month and a half.

If you want it and can swing the deal to get it why not?
Maybe you can find the rifle he wants for trade at a real good price on the 300 he wants. Times are hard and prices on used guns can be pretty good from individuals.
Good Luck
Greg

I am not sure I can afford it. I added 2 rifles and traded for one since January along with 2 sets of dies and brass.

I'd love another BIG rifle, but for the moment I must have some decent handguns as soon as my permit is in because they may not be availible forever.

In Canada as Dr Mike said, we are one election away from losing alot of our gun rights. More specifically, the Liberal party had a handgun ban as part of their campaign platform in 08. Might not be right away, but it could happen.

SO, get'm while you can. It seems that we tend to grandfather alot of things out here, so if that happens we'll either have to hand them down to our kids or be compensated for the "banned" items. The Full auto's have been banned here since 78 and they are all being passed down. Most of them fall into antique status also. It seems that this prospect is making alot of people hurry up and get their permits.

Hence, I need a Ruger SA revolver in 44 Mag or 357 Mag and my wife wants a 40 S&W in a 1911 style like a Para or Kimber. A 22 in a Ruger or Browning would be great too. Either a buckmark or 22/45 would be great for automatic or a Ruger single six SS with the 22 WMR cylinder would be great for revolver. I wouldn't be opposed to a 1911 45 or 9mm from Norinco either(alot of bang for your buck really, just made in China). Wouldn't mind an nice XD-9 or SIG 226 with a rail either. So, that is where the budget is going this year.

I've learnt since buying a 44 Henry rifle 2 years ago that I can shoot alot more rounds for alot less money if: it can be loaded with a charge of less than 25 grains, it has a straight walled case that I can use carbide dies, I can load with cast bullets & IF I can load it on a progressive.

Sorry to get longwinded.

Might the money be better spent on a hunting or fishing trip or a whole bunch of ammo for your existing guns?

Well, I am trying to keep it within reason. I want a couple handguns and then I'll decide from there. If I have one, the odds of keeping a permit is greatly improved. I also want to be able to be counted as a handgun owner and try to keep the handgun ownership legal here.

As it stands the Rifles are:

Marlin 60 22LR
Stevens 200 223
Wby Vanguard 257 wby
Savage 111 .264 med palma barrel
Win 70 super shadow 7mm WSM
Win 70 XTR 300 win
Bruno ZKK 602 .375 ICL Kodiak
Henry big boy .44 rem Mag

and of course that

Browning Abolt 7mm STW that is still here.

So, I think the rifles cover most hunting in North America.
That doesn`t mean there are not other toys that I want, just that they are alot harder to justify.
I would like to get a rifle in any of these calibers, but need them. Not really.

22-250
243
338 RUM
358 Norma or STA
17 rem or fireball
270 wby
8mm Rem mag or RUM
7mm RUM sendero
416

I`m slowly getting more realistic with this stuff. I still like big magnums and fast bullets, but Ì realize that alot of the potential my rifles have will never be realized in a practical setting. I most likely will not shoot a 190 B&C buck at 800 yds, I wouldn`t risk a buck that size against my LR skills. I`d get closer, on paper on the other hand, of course I`ll set the target as far as I have range and try.
