I've got a 30 year old 7mm mag Ruger Number One. Beautiful rifle. It developed an extraction problem that I couldn't solve, nor could the local gunsmith who professed some knowledge of these single shots.

Finally gave up and sent it to Ruger. Should have sent it there in the first place! They had it for about a month, and returned it yesterday, repaired, functioning perfectly and no charge.

I'm pleased and have to give Ruger a big ol' Thumbs Up for their great service!

BTW - I've had four of these single shots, three were magnums, and NONE of them had a hint of a problem except for this one with the extraction problem. Good rifles. Nice to have this beauty back!

Regards, Guy

Guy,

I'm pleased to hear this good experience with Ruger. However, my experience was not as great. I purchased a Hawkeye this past year. The checkering was "fuzzed" and the finish was terrible (it appeared to have leprosy). I requested information on a replacement stock, offering to pay for it, only to receive the runaround. Long story short, I recheckered it here and did the remainder of the work locally. Consequently, I'm less than impressed with Ruger's willingness to stand behind their product.

Guy,

Sorry to hear about the problem but happy that it was resolved quickly.
We need to add Ruger to the "list" of companies that stand 100% behind their products and with excellent customer service.

Hmmmm, apparently they didn't treat Dr. Mike as well.... :(

In fairness, I have two Hawkeye rifles, and I would likely buy another. I attribute the problem I encountered as much to the border (local suppliers were unwilling to work with me compelling me to look to Ruger) as to the product itself. It seems obvious that the CNC cutters used were near the end of their serviceable life. I was told that there were only three Hawkeyes chambered in 35 Whelan that had been sent into Canada, and I was unwilling to let this particular rifle go. On the whole, I'm pleased with the rifle. The previous Hawkeye was a 358, and I'm extremely happy with both the fit and finish and the performance of the rifle--it more than meets my expectations. Nevertheless, I would have been pleased to have been able to buy another stock. As it is, I simply spent a couple of hundred dollars and got everything finished to my specifications.

Guy,

I have Ruger P-89 that had over 5K rounds through it. The recoil spring had weaken to a point where the round jammed from time to time. I called Ruger and they sent me a new one at no charge. They even pay for shipping.

That's amazing DF. A recoil spring replacement is normal, routine maintenance in a semi-auto pistol.

Sounds like another hearty endorsement of Ruger! Cool.

Ruger service is out standing, I have two times once 18yrs ago and just recently as last September and no problems, they went out of their way to help.
