Local pawn and gun has this rifle. Condition is pretty good, bore and crown perfect. They want a little much but I think I can bring them down. I think it would make a pretty nice short to medium range walking varminter for fox and coyote. I tend to hunt a lot off the skis and snowmobile so a lightweight compact rifle is desirable. Anybody have any experience with these rifles?

Is it an 840 or 340... If it is the 340, I have the Western Auto M225 in 222 Rem which is the same rifle. Very accurate and a pretty solid rifle. Mounting optics might be a chore, but the rifle is very accurate for me so far.

+1 if a 340 you are stuck with a side mount or open sights. Otherwise, (as you may know) the triple deuce was THE bench rest cartridge for years until the PPC's came along. Great round IMHO and fun to shoot although I never took any game with one. CL

It is an 840, but after closer inspection there are some issues that steer me away. Small crack in the stock and some rust spots inside the action. Makes me question the overall internals. Guy also won't let me clean the bore and inspect so that's a red flag for me. Too bad, seemed like a handy little walking varminter for shorter range coyote and fox.

I just looked it up, I guess the 340 and 840 were all the same.

I like the one I use a bunch. Love that little 222 Rem. Great cartridge.
