I've picked up a 45-70 and I'm thinking a 2x7 32mm obj. would be a good fit. What do you all think? Scout mount with ghost ring? Standard mount and stock open sights? Trijicon/Firedot?
Thanks for your opinions!
Scott

muleman,

My 1895 Guide gun wears a Leupold VX-3 1.75-6x32mm mounted in Leupold Standard base and low rings.

I have the 2X7 Leupold SABR on my rifle right now, in LOW Leupold QRW rings. So far, it is a decent set up, but I think once I am able to switch it up, it'll get a Minox 1.5x8-32mm. Don't care about the top end, but I would love to have a little more low end. It is cool to shoot little groups with the rifle, but honestly, a nice 1x4 Leupold would probably be great as well. I kinda like Guy's old set up of the 2.5X Leupold as well. Simple is nice and tough. Scotty

You guys are making life really hard on me right now with all these moster lever guns! I can't help but think what one of these would do in the thick woods where ATM and I hunt spikes! I would have to lean towards a 1.5-5 or something of the likes.

That would be a great scope as well Jake. The big lever rifles are MADE for hunting the timber! Scotty

One more we need to bring over to the big bore lever gun side  You can do it! You will like it! Still waiting to hear from USMC89 and how his search for an 1895 went.

He will cave soon enough Brian. You can only say no for so long! Scotty

Wow, I really cant see the advantage of the 1.5 (1.75) over the 2-7. Ive had one of each and much prefer the 2-7. Just my eyes I guess. Im sure the lower powered scopes mentioned are great. My 1.5 was a Bushnell sportview .... CL
