Scope for the 280

Brian, I can understand the work too much part. It's sure a beauty of a setup. Thanks for sharing. I just saw a used Swarovski like yours but it'll probably be gone before I can save up enough. I sure like how that balances with the ultralight.

Nice rifle Brian. My .280 has an old Redfield Illuminator 3-9x42 scope on it bought in about 1990. Don't feel sorry for me though because that scope is optically better than many of you would think it is and it matches the rifle finish (early Ninja Composite). I have killed several deer with it and 140 gr PT's, all one shot kills.

Most of my most hunted, non-magnum rifles have from 3-9x to 4-12x variable scopes on them including: 3-9x42 Kahles, 2-10x40 Minox, 3.5-10x50 Kahles, 4x12x50 Swarovski. If I was to rescope my .280, I would probably put about a 3.5-10x40 scope on it (maybe a Leupold or Minox).

Here is a picture of my Weatherby Ultralight in .280 Remington. It is scoped with a Swarovski 3-10X 44. I have owned it for 5 years. Antelope, Deer and Elk have been taken with this rifle. Looks like you have decided to go for the rifle it is a great choice. Brian

Gotta love a nice pic of a nice rifle on a fencepost!

Very nice rifle Bryan! Looks great and really looks like one nice carrying rifle too. Scotty

The Swaro Hawk just looks tiddly on the side of a scope. Great picture, Brian.

You guys are killing me (again!). I need to be saving to buy an alpha-class spotting scope, and you are posting pics of rifles and scope I like. Arrgh!

Nice rifle Brian. Are you using it for elk this year?

I use a 300 or 338 mag on my Bull elk tag and usually the 280 on the late season cow/calf. It is
going to be a long season with 2 elk tags.

A long elk season... that would be nice.

I really like the late season cow/calf license it lasts untill the end of January. I get grouchy around the holidays so it does me and everyone around me some good if I leave town and threaten to shoot an elk. Brian

That is great that you get 2 seasons like that.. We got drawn for cow/calf and it is a split season here in Saskatchewan last 2 weeks of OCT. and from the 10th to 20th of Dec. I may not shoot one until late season as there just might be a chance that my 35 whelen could be ready:)

Blessings,
Dan

We get a spike only, a branch, OR a cow tag. Most first seasons are about four days, second seasons are ten.

Elk opens on September 1 for 3 point or better in this zone. The season runs until October 31. Cow elk opens September 15 and runs through October 31. There should be ample opportunity for elk. The 280 may accompany me afield for elk and moose this year.
