Scope hight question.

So I have a R-15 that seems to be shooting really pretty good at 100 yards. Got it about 1 inch high with some 40 gr. Bts and shot it the other day @200 and it was 2 inches low, it still was grouping pretty good but was low. . My question is how does scope hight effect line of sight? My scope is a little over 2 inches over the bore. I mounted it a bit higher to fit my better. I have been missing dogs like I'm some sort of unseasoned, unprepared rookie and it is driving me crazy. Any ideas?

I'm of the opinion to go as low to the bore as possible. Keeps your eye in line and your check pressed against the stock where it belongs. This is why see through rings suck so bad. Same concept...You have to lift your head up off the stock loosing your anchor point, consistency, and ulitmately accuracy.

Y_S +2.
Keep it low.
That will also help you maintain a better cheek to stock weld.

+1, keep it low DITTO!!!!

I agree with the others, ya want to keep your scope low. 1.5" is the typical norm.

If the R15 fits you like my AR15 fits me...I understand why you want it higher.

Raising the scope height puts more arc in the bullet trajectory...Take it to a range and get familiar with it...shoot it at 200, 300, 400 yards and take notes on where the bullets impact the targets...then you will know where and how to hold so you don't miss anymore dogs.

Measured it this morning and it is right at 2.5" above the bore line. Then went on my morning drive around the farm and shot a HUGE dog at about 125 or so. I'll be doing some more loading and practicing before i make any major changes to the mounting system.

Thanks guys.

You may be able to add something to the top of the stock to raise the comb....just an idea.

It seems to fit me pretty good my face isn't smashed into the stock, but I still have a pretty good cheek weld on it. My little bro put a thin foam pad on his 308 that workled pretty good, I moght have to try that or get slightly lower mounts if I can't get any better with it.

Thanks for the Ideas!
