Some pics of the shooting bench 85 steps from the front door. My father built this in the early 80's. It has been redecked a couple of times. I had to add the portable platform as it is too short for me to shoot comfortably without it.
I'm interested to see what other folks are using.

It does look stable, which is essential. I use the benches at the gun range. Neighbours in town would be somewhat upset were I to begin shooting there.

The pictures aren't as detailed as yours, but they give an idea of what I shoot from most days.

Nice having it so close to home! And that your father built it, makes the bench even better.

I seldom use a bench, but when I do, I appreciate a stable, comfortable, well-made shooting bench. Don't seem to have a photo to share, but our gun club has some real nice benches, with heavy concrete shooting surfaces. Quite nice to use.

Regards, Guy

...dug out, backfilled, set & leveled the cans, filled 'em 3/4 full w/ rocks (it's WY)...

...added the top & seats...

How far can you shoot here. This is a lot more open than any of the land around here.

The local gun club (9 miles away) put stainless tops on their beaches and put in seats on a pivot. I found it very difficult to get things to keep from sliding and moving around. They do have a 200 yard backstop while the furthest I can go is 100 due to the terrain.

...I'm only set up to shoot 200yds. w/ a good backstop...

...this is what it looked like this morning...

...grab a cheap bath mat, one w/ the sticky bottom, to take w/ you. It'll minimize the skidding around, dampen the sound a little, & be a lot more comfy than the ss top...

Here's mine. I've got floor flanges to anchor the legs to he deck, but haven't installed yet. It's very stable as is.

Very neat job and excellent setup. I do like the thought of shooting off the deck.

Is that an Icon Precision Hunter???? If so, I'm VERY jealous! They are like finding a unicorn!

You've got a good eye! It is a TC Icon Precision Hunter, chambered in a 6.5 Creedmoor. Awesome shooter -- I'd buy a second one in a heartbeat. Will shoot 3/8" groups with 2 different factory ammo loads. Looking forward to seeing what it will do with handloads.

Thanks. It's nice to shoot from -- makes it easy to shoot off the bench, offhand, or prone with little hassle.

If you EVER think about getting rid of it..........I'll punch you   ......... and I'll be first in line. I've wanted one in that caliber forever, but never could find one.

I have an Icon weathershield .243 and love it. The Icon action is sweet!

People seem to either love or hate the Icon (with those that dislike, doing so mainly on its looks). They shoot incredibly well, and I really like how the Precision Hunter feels and balances. I'm pretty sure my 6.5 CM isn't going anywhere, rather am contemplating adding a few Icons to the gun safe as they come up on my radar screen. Will let you know if I run across another 6.5 CM, though.

Mine is 3, 4 X4's, in an inverted L shape, set in concrete with a piece 1" of flooring screwed to the posts. Its about 200 yards from the house. 200 yards is the longest practical because the power lines are hard to see out farther. I am under them out to 200 but shooting between them farther out. For 300. 400 and 600, I lay on the ground (on a very slight rise) about 40 feet from the house. It gives me good practice for prone shooting, and puts me well above the power lines.

I can go out farther but the next backstop is probably around 1200 yards, and I am not skilled at 600 let alone 1200.
