I see where you went wrong Fotis "This exclusive line of extruded powders was developed with extreme conditions in mind".

Does not say anything about achieving it, it's always the fine, fine print that will get ya.

"Using an exclusive extrusion process and exacting quality standards, Hodgdon has created a line of propellants that performs better at hot and cold temperatures than any other powder on the market".

Boy howdy Fotis they should see your 378's velocity performance in hot weather, I'd say they done good but I do wonder how much it slows down in colder weather. Do you suppose 60 degrees is the magic line between velocity increasing and decreasing?

Bill

Fotis, I get the best velocity and accuracy with a heavy charge of IMR 7828 in all of my Weatherbys . The deviation is only 10 to 15 fps.

And I tought the 338 RUM got hot after 3 shots.

Try laying a cool wet towl on the barrel between shots, it works well pulling the heat out of the barrel.
As for outside temps, sit in your truck with the A/C on and crack the window. Use the cool wet towl as a rest.

I will be trying this

Fotis,
Your experience shooting in the heat is what I contend with here in the Tennessee. I just do not like it. Colorado spoiled me while living there. We have the humidity aspect and heat index here to deal with too.
But what I did learn while in load development with my 300 RUM was this, Retumbo peaks faster as temps rise, more so than other powders I have shot, something I'm sure you already know. It would group well, just wasn't sold on the Extreme thing as advertised, at least with this particular gun. Yes the overbore guns or guns with a large powder column do heat the barrel more so in higher ambient temps. The truck A/C thing mentioned does work.

RL-25 has proven to be the powder shooting 180-200 bullets for me. Good luck with your gun, the 378 Bee is a cannon.

Don

Same here Don. Retumbo was worse in my 264 than RL25. RL25 is very consistent and less "peaky".. At least that was my findings. I am sold on the stuff in my 264. It has turned my M70 264 into a laser beam tack driver, at least, my kinda tackdriver. DF might argue with me!

Damn, that is one mean looking bullet Fotis! I might have to rethink using H4350 myself too. Hard to beat 7828.

I can tell you they (CE raptors) will not work with compressed loads. The bands expand the neck (somewhat) and when the powder "pushes " the bullet back out the neck is expanded. Like pulling and reseating the bullet in the same case.... Loose neck

This is why I went with a faster powder.
With 124 gr of RL25 I could have gotten close to 3450 but you are not going to seat them!

Boomer.
I agree IMR-7828 is a consistant powder. I have used it in the past just couldn't get the velocity compared to RL-25 in my 300 RUM. But man it was accurate. It's a very good powder. Shot very well in my 7 Rem mag days with a 175 Partition.

Don

N-560 might do OK. I will try it.
