Looks like 2010 is going to be a single-shot season for me! Hunted a bit with a Number One last year, but ended up taking a pair of mulies with my bolt rifle. This year, am happy enough, and familiar enough with the Rugers that I intend to hunt only with the single shots. Planning on black bear & mule deer hunts for sure, maybe elk. All here in Washington State.

7mm Rem mag, 160 gr Nosler Partitions loaded to 3050 fps. Could just do it all with this nice old rifle.

.375 H&H, 260 gr Nosler AccuBond loaded to 2650 fps. Since I've got it, I might as well use it! Most likely for bear and elk...

Both are shooting well. I'm really starting to like this idea of hunting only with the single shots!

Guy,

For sure you have the equipment to make this happen. Best of luck to you. I'll watch with interest as you relate your stories of the hunts. It will be good.

Guy,

As I have mentioned before, that is a beautiful pair of Ruger No. 1's!
This year should be a lot of fun, best wishes to you filling your tags with the Rugers.

Good luck Guy, you have a very nice pair of rifles for sure. That 7RM and 375 offer alot of coverage! Scotty

Dynamic duo. Looks like some trophy pictures comming up this season.
Beautiful rifles. There's just something cool about a single shot. 8)

Gotta tell you guys - these two rifles are so nice to shoot and carry that I've thought about selling my bolt action hunting rifles. All of them. Then, just hunting everything with these two...

It's tempting... I'm really drawn to the minimalist way of life, but seem to be all too crowded with "stuff."

Regards, Guy

For sure very nice looking rifles, I had a .300Win Mag that was
a pleasure to shoot, very hard to come by here. Enjoy ur RUGERS.

Guy, as tempting as it may be, DON'T DO IT! You are a gun crank just like the rest of us here and you will regret it. Your M700 CDL 25-06 is too nice to let go!

Good point JD. I can just rotate the bolt actions & lever guns to the back of the gun safe for this season. They won't bother anything there...

I have some room for a 25-06 in my safe Guy. So if you think you will be too tempted to use it, send it out here for safe keeping. I will safeguard it for ya. Scotty

Such generosity is overwhelming! Wow, the level of consideration found on this forum is awe-inspiring!

Guy,
I hate to tell you this, but you will enjoy hunting with the single-shots so much that you will ALMOST stop hunting with anything else. Almost but not qutie!! I still like my bolt rifles, but the only bolt rifle I have right now technically belongs to my wife, and it is a Remington Mountain Rifle in 25-06. The other bolt rifle I had was mine, and it was a .280 Remington in the same rifle. I still kick myself in the butt for selling the .280. It was a great rifle.

There is just something special about hunting with a single-shot. You will see!!

Mike, that is what one Marine will do for another. I like to try and take care of my brothers! HA. Scotty

I think that .25-06 is securely stowed in the gun locker, but maybe I'd better check...

Ear mark them for your boys, then hopfully you won't be as tempted to use them, don't want to wear them out you know.

Where are you hunting elk this year. We are done hunting in your neck of the woods and more than likely will be hunting the blues.

Corey

Location of the elk hunt depends on how the draw for the special hunts goes.

I've no real interest in the general elk season in the Colockum. It's a circus. However, a late-season cow tag or an early season bull tag there would interest me. If I go during the general season, it will be in a smallish area, off the beaten path, where I've found some elk in my travels. 'Nuff said about that.

Rgr, if they are securely stowed, I guess you have it handled! Good luck guy. Scotty
