Slug Gun for wife/son

Well, !2 or 20 they kick to dang much.

That said if money were no object an Ithica would be top of the list. Just NICE, all the right technology and supposedly accorate.
Second would be a Savage. Hard to argue with that trigger and a good barrel, Still, around here they are a $600 proposition. My other concren would be having a stock the right size. Little more involved to shorten plastic.
Brownings are nice guns but I know nothing about them as far as slug guns go except they are spendy too.
BIL has an 11-87 he shoots well. I'd sure consider it in terms of reciol reduction and if you want to spend the money I think Tmmeny makes a trigger for some Remingtons. Just a personal thing I am not a big fan of remingtons but, the most accurate slug shooter I ever saw, cut a clover leaf group at 80 yards.

My experience shooting the H&R was Brutal....some reason they just KICK
That gets us down to a Mossberg. Its what I shoot- price being a big consideration. I have the trophy sluggster with a ported barerel and a high comb stock. I have done some work on the trigger and 90% of the creep is gone and its down to about a 5lb pull  but Mossberg makes a lousy trigger. Unless.... you can find one with what they call an LPA trigger. Ive never seen one with a slug barrel but I think Mossberg has it in the catalog. The thing about the Mossberg is they make the Bantam (youth Model) and I think the ported barrel is worth while. Also the wood stocks can be shortened as needed, they add weight, and they dont break the bank. What ever you choose. Make sure it fits right. (ie pitch of the butt, length, high enough comb-fore arm close enough for good control) Then cut it downto fit a good recoil pad. Find scope with a good waranty and plenty of eye relief. Luey makes one for shotguns nd Muzzle loaders that is nice.

One last thing. IMHO I prefer "managed recoil slugs in my 12 to full house loads in a 20 at least as far as reducing recoil goes. I prefer that over a 20 guage. Shooting slugs well takes a little change in style as well. It seems to me that if you let the barrel "free recoil" you will throw slugs high and to the left. Some slugs move slow enough that recoil will affect your point of aim. It takes firm consistient grip on that fore end - more so than a rifle.

More than you asked for.... but I am stuck hunting with slugs and I do not enjoy it....OH well, it gets me out hunting. CL

Same here CL, I grew up in a slug county and all of your points make great sense. I am leaning pretty hard on the bolt gun Savage. Seems like the easiest to learn from. Not sure about 12 or 20 yet, but, I will figure it out.
