We've a couple of small fires in Oregon now, one up on Mt. Hood, the other due north of that one in the Columbia Gorge.
The smoke is just reaching us. Mt Fanny is visible but getting hazy. The top is about three miles and 3000 feet above.

We've had smoke more days than clear skies for the past two months. Heavy smoke yesterday and lighter smoke today. Hope you're able to avoid the heavy smoke.

With compassion for those emphysematics and asthmatics out there I say, Burn 🔥 Baby 🔥 Burn!

OK. Now that I’ve released my 1968 inner radical this is the result of 100 years of forest mismanagement. We’re breathing and suffering the consequences. We need to go have some serious forest thinning and if some environmental lawyers or groups want to stop that I say, Throw them on the fire too.

Sensible and responsible logging would provide employment, protect our forest and wildlife, and help to restore the balance that nature is trying to create.

We certainly understand what youre living with Dr. Mike. We have had quite a bit of smoke in our valley the last several years. Months you can’t see the top of the mountain. We’re hoping this year may be different.

We’ve been clear for 2 weeks from the Canadian smoke down here. Not sure how you people put up with that each year.

Doc, we had one day of smoke way down here in Florida. I live on the Central East Coast and both the Sun and Moon were hazy with the typical smell. Luckily the wind changed and things cleared up. Now we're dealing with Sahara Sand. You're probably saying HUH? Just about every year we get a very light sandstorm (sometimes (heavy) that comes over from the Sahara Desert and spreads crap on everything. The only benefit is that it seems to keep the hurricanes away which is a godsend. The sand makes your eyes water, gives you a dry throat (sounds like the fires) and turns everything into a brown haze. That's normally a 1-2 week event. Life is interesting in Florida.

I awakened this morning to another "Special Air Quality Statement." It keeps the air purifier working in my study. Unfortunately, I do need to go out to care for responsibilities.

Yep...smoky enough here that most mornings I cannot see across the lake at the wide end, by where I live, or the ridge across the lake at the narrow end where I work (about a mile at both points. There have been many days where visibility has been down to about a 1/4 mile.
The fires in just northern BC have now burned more area than all of the fires within the entire province over the last 20 years combined!

The hunters and outfitters are going to have issues spotting sheep and goats this year!
