I have been shooting the old nosler solid base bullets in my 25-06 with imr 4831 and a cci mag primer and geting half inch groups and 3418 for velocity. I am almost out of these fun little bullets and am looking for more of them. I see that they are now discontinued but the 100 grain ballistic tip look quite similar. Someone told me that the ballistic tip is just a nosler solid base with a plastic tip and a thicker jacket. Is this true? Will my accuracy be similar if I switch to the ballistic tip?

You are correct that the difference between the two is the polycarbonate tip of the ballistic tip. The BT has gone through a few minor changes over the years and they are a very accurate bullet.
Give the 100 gr BT a try, I am certain that you will be pleased with them n your 25-06.

Back in the 1980's when the Ballistic Tip replaced the Solid Base, I was NOT happy.

Until I shot some Ballistic Tips... Talk about accurate... And they're good deer bullets - no doubt.

A few years ago Nosler made some more Solid Base bullets, I think for one of the big ammo makers. Then they had a huge blowout sale on them, and I grabbed a bunch in 6mm and .30 caliber. They've been real good, just as good as I remember them from 20 some years ago and my son took a mule deer with one last year. Made me feel good, him using the same kind of bullets I used so long ago. He took a bear with a .30 cal solid base this year too.

Still, I think the Ballistic Tips have the edge - a little more accurate, and they work very well on game.

Obviously no gurantee they are going to shoot in the same place and may require a little tweaking here or there, but I agree with the others - give-em a try ! They are extremely accurate bullets and have treated me well over the years.

Same here, BT's are great shooters in most all my rifles. Plus, they are excellent deer bullets. Keep an eye out for them on SPS, you can buy them cheaper than buying off the shelf too! Scotty
