Today I loaded up some Nosler PPTS for the 223 Contender.
The first three shots through the Carbine looked like a disaster. The 100 yard target was worse.
Then I tried the pistol barrel and was pleasantly surprised to do this well.
Not great, but a definite improvement.
The bullet holes on the tighter target look kind of oblong. If there wasn't something about how the target was set I'm wondering if they aren't wobbling?
I played with them a little in a buddies 22250 and it didn't go good.
Someday will have to try them in my 1:7 223.
This bullet? It's a bit heavy for caliber, although the BC isn't extraordinarily high. Guessing your carbine barrel has a twist more appropriate to 55 grain or lighter bullets.
I'll have to see if anyone I know has a few of these and see how they do through a NM rifle with a 1-8 twist that is known to eat any 60-80 gr bullet with ease.
Well if anybody has actually shot anything but paper with these I'm all ears to learn how they perform at 223 speeds.
I only tried these because they were a good buy as factory seconds.
What were these originally intended to be used in and for? Something with a little more oomph?
