I spent the last couple of days putting the finishing touches on some rifles I've been putting together.

First one is a M700 Classic .300 Savage that I traded for, this will probably be my daughters elk rifle when she is able to tolerate the recoil. All I did was put the old Burris FF 3-9X40 on top of it. Looks like I need to get new rings as the ones that came with it are a little tall.

This one is an old stagger feed .243 that is finding new life as a .250 Savage. 24" Shilen barrel, and 2-7X32 Vortex Viper, Sharp Shooter bolt handle, and Leupold weaver style bases and rings, B&C Carbelite stock, tuned older three screw trigger and weighs 8lbs 4oz.

Not a new rifle but one I put on a diet.

M70 Extreme Weather in .270 Win weighed 9lbs 8oz with the old scope Vortex Viper 6.5-20X44, stock, sling, and 5 rounds down the magazine.

New weight with McMillan FWT Edge tech, Talley mounts, and 3.5-10X40 VX3 with CDS a svelte 7lbs 13oz.

Very nice! All three of them look like great hunting rifles! Just can't see any of them not being excellent to carry in the woods.

Nice! You shaved about two pounds from the .270, excellent!

The others should be very nice, light recoiling hunting rifles. Very cool.

That two pounds came mainly from the scope and rings. The old scope weighed 20 oz, and I don't have a clue what the Warn 30mm rings weighed but they're heavy. The difference between the McMillan and the B&C stock isn't as large.

Those are some very sweet rifles. I do like the 300 Savage; that is one sweet cartridge in a beautiful rifle.

What do you think of that Sharp Shooter bolt handle? Does it add much weight? I've been toying with the idea of putting one on my Savage.

Never weighed the handle, but I'm guessing it weighs about the same as the factory one. I like them better than the short factory handles, they are far easier to manipulate and they aren't obnoxiously large like the factory tactical bolt handle. The Stockade Gunstocks knurled handle is my favorite of the tactical bolt handles.

Another dumb question how do you order from Sharpshooter Supply? I've done it before but I don't remember now.

Email them and tell them you want to place an order. Leave them your phone number and they'll usually call you back in a day or so. Trying to get someone to answer the phone is very hit or miss.

Ok thanks for that. I did email them and they are curently out of stock of all bolt handles. Bummer.

If you want to lighten the recoil on that 300 Savage and use it for deer size game load up some 125 Nosler ballistic tips with 42 grs IMR 4895. They will run about 2850 fps and really drop a deer in their tracks. I use the 125 BT in all my 30 cals for deer. Just keep the impact velocity under 3000 fps and they really kill a deer dead in their tracks out to 300 yards or so.

I think I am going to give them a whirl in my 300 Savage. I had good luck with the 125's of Sierra's version, the Pro Hunter. I have some of the 125 BT's, and happen to have a 300 Savage needing some shooting...
