Set up a rifle today for a fellow - I don't necessarily agree with his choice of "accessories" for the rifle, but all in all it turned out pretty well. He brought over a Spikes Tactical AR-15 and a box of stuff to be mounted on it: sling, recoil pad to increase the LOP, Barska 4x scope, Barska green laser, and a Hogue pistol grip. I got all those things mounted on the rifle and took it to the range:
The rifle ran flawlessly. I was using Federal 55 gr FMJ ammo, and the rifle had no malfunctions of any kind. Trigger pull was smooth & consistent. I've so far neglected to check the pull weight.
Starting with the standard flip-up rear sight, I sighted it in at 50 yards. The Barska 4x scope was surprisingly easy to dial in. Not a top notch scope, I hope it will serve him adequately. The laser showed great promise but conked out during the shooting. Am hoping it was but an old battery suddenly confronted with use in the cold. We'll see.
50 yard sight-in target. Made a sight adjustment after the first shot. Not a wall-hanger group, but good enough for the conditions. Brrrrr! Fired from prone with no support.
7 yards, three, two-shot rapid fire drills, using the scope & 50 yard zero. Looks like it worked okay.
The P-Mag of course functioned very well. Nice piece of gear. I'm not all that impressed with the optics, but the rifle itself is good stuff and I think will do a fine job.
Just a quick test report. Link to Spikes website: https://www.spikestactical.com/new/z/index.php
