Took a little buck this morning. It pretty much went down right out of the play book. I parked the truck about 5:30am, hiked into the timber using the GPS and headlamp, sat down leaning up against a tree and waited for light.
It seemed like I just sat down (maybe it was like 20 min) when out pops a doe. Well, it's November 4th so I was sure a buck would be right behind her. The doe came right up next to me, passing me at maybe 10 yards when I see the buck pop out at maybe 70 yards below me. When the doe looked back at the buck, I swung the riffle around to where I thought the buck would come. And of course, here he came trotting up. He stopped at no more then 15 yards from me.

I shot, using my Rem 700 BDL in 270 win. hand loaded 140 grn AccuBond loaded with H4831sc. Complete pass through of course. He ran maybe 50 yards.

sorry for the crappy pictures, they are from my cheap flip phone.
I actually had to follow the blood trail, which was a first for me. Not as easy as you would think, there was very little blood. I think he bled into his chest cavity more then anything. I was a bit worried when I couldn't find him, but after a quick grid search (after I lost the trail), I found him not too far away.
Anyway, I'm pleased. He's only my 3rd buck, and my first blacktail. The funny thing is, I always imagine taking that great 300 or 400 yard shot. But I've yet to take one over 100 yards. I guess I just like being in their living room.
