We just finish getting 12" of fresh lake effect snow and we have 6+ weeks of winter yet to deal with. Danielle and I bought our 2013 Spring Turkey tags last night so all we can do is wait and watch.
This morning there were 27 birds in the back yard. 12 are shooter toms too.
I think we are going to have another good season.

That is a pretty amazing picture; it assuredly leads one to believe that there will be some excellent turkey hunting this spring. That'll get anticipation running!

The state of WI mailed ours out a few weeks ago. When I got mine from the mail box, it was -3. Two months from now I will be taking a kid on the Learn to Hunt program. I also just got a new pot call. It is a Brian Mero ceramic over glass in a paduk pot. It sounds great. I love turkey hunting and calling birds in for other hunters. Enjoy your spring and hammer one of those big gobblers.

Nice, I am really looking forward to the Spring here as well Jim. Seems like alot of birds in the woods here too. Should be a fun Spring..

That is a great photo, that is one hunt that I likely won't
get to do here as there is no season. We have a few in the eastern
part of the province but not enough for a hunt.
Have fun this coming spring the forecast looks like there are birds in your
neck of the woods

Blessings,
Dan

My buddy Shaun just bought a new turkey choke yesterday. Almost kinda looking forward to HIM patterning the 3.5 Mag Blends!

Scotty,

The 3.5" Mag Blend is awesome!
I use a Pure Gold .670" choke.

I have been having great luck with Hevi #7 out of my 870 with a SumToy choke. 200+ at 40. I shot my gobbler 2 years ago at 50 yards and he stone cold dead before he hit the ground. I want to try MagBlends after I shoot up the #7s.

Hard to imagine anything walking through that hale of bullets and surviving, Jim.

That is a 10" circle. I made a sight adjustment so the pattern is centered but I can't find the picture.
I shot a tom a few years ago at 53 paces so I know it will reach out and get them.

I have been amazed by Hevi shot and the turkey ammo they produce. It is expensive but in the big picture of a spring hunt, I will pay a few bucks more for it. The hours scouting, driving, not sleeping all to have a failed hunt due to ammo is not worth it. Last year I called a tom in and he hung up at 40 yards. My coworker was the shooter and had his own set up. He asked how far it was and I ranged it at 41 and said now or never. He fired and the bird ran off. After the shot he said he was using a full choke with #4 Remington Nitro loads. I am guessing at 40 he would get 50-70 in a 10" circle. I offered my gun but he said no. At the end of the day, he was wishing he used my 870. My wife used a 20 ga and hammered a nice gobbler at 40 with Hevi #7 and a Primos Tightwad choke. That gun gets 160 at 40 in a 10" circle.
