Can someone explain the theory about a loading practice called "Stoney Point". From what I understand, the theory is to load the bullet out to the extreme length, then back off by .020. Supposedly these type loads will not work in certain magazines. That's all I know about it and would be interested in knowing more, not that I intend to load any this way just want to learn more.

Stoney Point is the name of a company that made reloading tools. Now the tools Are sold under the Hornady name. The tool you are refering to is for finding the length to the lands of the bullet you are loading measured to the bullet ogive. Many loaders use the tools. And yes some lengths of loaded rounds are controled by the magazine box length.Rick.
