super accurate 223 loads

I'm looking for something that will give me 10 shot groups under a dime at 100 from a bench.

Current load with 40g vmax and benchmark will fit in a quarter but that's best I can get them. Plus its bit warm at 3800fps and isn't the most consistent with velocities either.

The rifle is a ruger target model with 26" heavy bbl with 12' twist. Know ill have to go with some type match 52-53 but mainly looking for powder ideas. I think the rifle is capable of doing so with right load.

Don't care about speed this go round, just pure accuracy.

Using Winchester cases and cci 400 primers.

H-335 is my go to for the 223, however I had a couple that shot bugholes with IMR 3031

Should've said I'm not fan of ball powder but if it will give me what I want I won't complain to much haha.

I shoot it currently in several 223's rifled 8,9,10,and 12, now 2 are AR's, one is a mini and a max load of 335 behind a 52 gr hornady runs from the worst of 1" to scary accurate in my RRA varminter. the 3031 loads were shot in 2 old rem. 788's and done really well. If IIRC bullet was a 52 or 53 gr sieera.

You might try CCI450's. Cheaper experiment, and they work better than 400's for me.

In my old 788, I shoot Win brass, WSR primers, 25.5 IMR 8208 XBR w 50 gr NBT into 3/4 or less.
Don't know exact speed but book says 3250 or so.

I've pushed 50-grain V-Max and BT both to 3400 fps with Benchmark and seen great accuracy. I think the BTs shoot a little better. I'd suggest 50-grain BTs over 26.5 grains of Benchmark.

Only tried the 40g vmax and 55g nbt both with benchmark.

10 shots in a dime is no easy goal, but I believe with right load I should be able come close anyway.

I started with 450s but I didn't see any advantage.

Lots of good match pills out there..think I should be good with most any of them..think finding right powder is gonna be the ticket.

That's just it, though...Benchmark is hard to beat. If you can find a better powder for .223, I'd like to know about it!

Well in that case ill go head and try some 52g sierras ahead of some benchmark...if that don't work out ill be on search for different powder for sure.

Searching for a load for Dad's 7mm Wby this fall I went through a number of permutations. Advice from guys who reload a lot more than me and did it for years was that it's the bullet, not the powder, that your rifle will like. Several bullets later and a couple of powders I have to agree. :shock:

Powders, primers, seating depth, etc are all ways to fine tune the load, not significantly change how it spins down the barrel. That, as always, is the bullet.

52 grain Noslers and H335 work just fine for me with a Rem 7 1/2.

My go to load for 40-gr pills is 25 grains of Varget. I have 2- different 1/12 twists and they tear 1-itty bitty hole.

The 40-grain BT and H322 at or near max load with bullet seated out near lands work great in my stock Rem 700 VS. (There is not a lot of neck engagement in my loads, and of course you should experiment with best bullet jump in your gun.) I have one souvenir 200-yd target, 4 shots into a perfect cloverleaf hole. The average 100 yard 4-shot group is 1/3 inch or less. Given the off-the-shelf rifle and substandard shooting and wind doping skills on my part, that's not shabby, and bad news for varmints in my area.

Benchmark, so far i have used the berger 52gr HPV and the 52gr A-max. groups are from .2" to .5" at 100 yards. And under 1.5" at 200 yards which I think can be tightend with better tecnque at the bench on my part.

I am mainly hunting so its bullets that will expamd that I am loading but with some advise I just picked up so custom comp 52gr to try next.

looks sweet, the mini rabbit ear bag on my hoppies rest dos not dampen vibrations much. I still have four sand bags (lead shot bags with sand) that i should try out front to see how they work.
