Just got done shooting and I've found my antelope load! I was working with 150 and 165 gr. Accubonds in my 300WSM and trying Hogdon's Superformance. Most groups were 11/2" to 11/4" but I found three that broke MOA. The most promising is 150gr. AccuBond, 73gr of Super over a Fed 215M. A COL of 2.860 gave me a .75" group at 3270fps with STD of 9. At COL of 2.930(mag length) I got 1" groups at 3374fps and a STD of 12. My gun is a CZ model 3(Montana 1999 action) with a 24" barrel and totally stock except for the full action bedding I gave it(my first do it yourself job). The 165gr AccuBond flew well with 71gr of Super, Fed 215M primer loaded to a COL of 2.930 I got 1" groups going 3193fps, STD of 11. Now all I have to do is mount the new 4.5x14 leupy VX-3 with the varmint reticle and verify the stadia and I'm ready for Oct 18th.

Good Hunting,
Scott

Wow, that Super seems to really make the 300WSM sing! I have to remember that for when I acquire one! Those are some great speeds with those bullets. Very deadly rounds there. Seems like that 165gr AB would work pretty slick on elk too. Scotty

That is some pretty impressive performance, way to go.

Good for you. My first tests with SuperFormance were positive. I can't say that accuracy was better than with some of the older powders, but there was a marked increase in velocities. Your work verifies what I observed. Good luck on antelope.

...so far, my very small experience w/ Suprformance has left me scratching my head, my .25 WSSM doesn't seem overly impressed w/ it. So far, RL-17 is working just as well w/ better velocities in both the .25 WSSM & .300 WSM...

...accuracy ES/SD has been very good in my .300WSM, velocities haven't been quite what I expected, mind you, these are some bullets stuffed into cases over some powder, shot thru a dead stock T3 in kinda a hurry so, take the results w/ a grain of healthy scepticism...

.300 WSM/ 165 Sierra BT/ 71.0@ 3077fps/ 70.5@ 3035fps/ 71.5gr@ 3114fps., bottom is 72gr.@ 3107??? Suprfrm

Gene,

I've observed that phenomenon on multiple occasions. You've plateaued the velocity curve despite the pressure curve still rising. You're likely on the cusp of a pressure spike, assuming that data is reproducible. I generally drop back at that point, anticipating that I'm tickling the dragon's tail.

I'm starting to wonder if this a Tikka T3 deal. Mine in 30-06 hit its plateaue well before two otehr 30-06 I've loaded for.

Great sounding results.

My 257 AI is in the shop right now. When I get it back I'm pretty sure I'll have to dink around w/ this stuff to see how it does against the fantastic results I've gotten w/ IMR4350. The 257 AI has a bit more case capacity than the WSSM, but they're really close.

Yes sir we are very lucky to be living during these times. Components are so versatile and plentiful.

I was reading Roy Weatherby's bio the other day and he was referring to Remington Core locts as controlled expansion bullets!

Superformance performed as advertised in my 6mm Remington. I'm getting 70gr ballistic tips to run 3824fps. Coyotes hate the new load, sighted in for a 2.8" max rise over line of sight at 170yds I can hold dead on to 340 and on hair to 390. I like the new powder.

Where does the superformance fall in the burn rate/ what powder is comparable. I'm running the 208 A-max in my 300 WSM at 2950 fps with RL-17 and so far this combo is hard to beat. The only worry I have is the temperature stability as I developed this load in near 100 degree weather.

...fastest to slowest, some common powders for reference...
112. IMR-4350
114. RL-17
119. RL-19
120. IMR-4831
124. H4831/H4831SC
125. SUPERFORMANCE
128. RL-22

...you'll probably lose some velocity, but RL-17 is supposed to be very temp stable...
