Well, I had a Weatherby Vanguard Sage Country in 7mm Rem Mag. It was a nice rifle and shot decent, but I wasn't impressed with the trigger and since I already have a M70 7mm Rem Mag, my buddy has the exact same rifle as I do, but only in a 300 Weatherby Mag. We actually bought them on the same day. He has had his sitting in the closet ever since he bought it, and I offered to trade him straight up for his. He also has a Leupold on his with Leupold mounts. Never had a 300 WBY, and I don't really NEED it, but it didn't cost me anything and his test target that came with his is a 1/2" group with 180gr Hornady Spire Points. Anyhow, it gives me something else new to mess with and they are nice handling rifles. He loved my 7mm, and when I showed him some of the targets I had shot with it, he was more than happy to swap. I only put maybe 40 rounds through it, just never really fell in love with it. So, anyhow, I will have the same thing, just a 300WBY instead of the 7mm Rem Mag.

This is the 7mm. The 300 is identical, and our other buddy bought one in 270Win that I developed loads for that is a tack killer also. They are pretty nice rifles and we got them for a song.

I was debating getting the 7RM turned into a 257, but the 25-06 came my way, and the 300WBY is a pretty useful round also, so it will be good to have another 300 around. Plus, it will be a good platform for anykind of build I might do. If the trigger is crappy in this one, I won't shoot it till I throw a Timney in it. Scotty

Sweet! You are right that you don't need a Vanguard when you have a Model 70! I think you will enjoy the Bee.

Love it but hen I am a bee slut

Scotty,

Congratulations on the 300 Wby. Can't wait to hear how she shoots for you.

Yeah, the 7mm Vanguard just didn't do it for me. It was accurate and nice enough, but I felt like I was cheating on my M70 that spent its whole life teaching me how to hunt. I figure I could always drop this 300 off with my buddy who has my M70 and give him enough 200gr Accubonds or PT's to last awhile. I can't imagine he would argue. This rifle is truly on the back burner as I have that 25-06 burning a hole in my mind right now. I bet it will be a shooter though, looking at the factory test target. Hopefully my 300 Win Mag doesn't throw a fit! Scotty

Well done! I love the looks of that stock. Never been a huge .308 cal guy, but if I had to get one it would be a 300 Weatherby.

Nice stick, but...

when has need ever mattered? Do I need both a .358 Winchester and a .35 Whelen? Do I need both a .300 Winchester and a .300 Weatherby (and looking to add a .300 H&H and a .300 WSM)? Do I need a .25-06 and a .257 Weatherby? Do I need three .223s? Two 7mms? :)

Scotty

Great swap I would do that one any day of the week. If you would like to swap it for a 7mm STW let me know. Or an 03, or a Mauser, or a .308 or a ????. I can be really flexible. I think that the .300 B is the ultimate elk cartridge it reaches out a long ways, is flat, and has lots of authority when it gets there! I would really recommend starting with "200" grain bullets from day one. I would bet the 200 gr AccuBond with a BC of .588 will really float along.

Yeah, if it needs doing, a .300 Wby can probably handle the job.

Good swap. Those are nice rifles.

Scotty I've got the same rifle but in the older version with the black synthetic stock.
My test target was with the same ammo but it was a 1/2 inch group.
Bought it at Wal-mart about ten or twelve years ago for $364.00.

I had my smith do a trigger job on it as it had alot of creep.
It shoots factory ammo so well I've never bothered to handload for it.
You're gonna love it.

Good idea HT. I will have to find a good smith in the area. If not, for about 50 more, I can do a Timney. Looking forward to messing with the 300 WBY. It seems like it will make a good longer range rifle. My 300WM is a great shooter also, so I would have a tough time replacing it. I would think 200gr Accubonds would be something out of the WBY though! Scotty

The 300 Wby. is an awsome and accurate round with enough power and bullet flexibility for anything on this continent. I had one like yours and a model 70 Win. They were both tack drivers. I was sadly lured away by the faster (200 fps) 300 RUM which I love, but it just ain't a Weatherby. :? I believe you'll be very pleased.

You gonna love the 300 Weatherby. I like my 300 Win Mag... a very reliable long range killer and been my go to rifle comes opening day but, I always have my eyes on the 300 Weatherby. So now I have both and probably another one more 300 Bee that's currently lurking in my closet in the form of Sako AV with Douglas Match barrel. My buddy want 1K for it and want's me to sell it for him. I'm contemplating of keeping it. I have a decision to make. So many rifle so little time  .
