The baiting has begun

I shot my lott this morning with 250gr Barnes tsx's. It shot 3187 and 3141fps with a rather mild load of R-7. A friend shot them into phone books and they expanded to 1 1/4" and went through 4 phone books.

Wow, holy smack down! Are those the ones meant for the 45-70 is a giant HP?

They should work on a poor old bear!

Yeah they are 45-70 bullets with big hollow points.

Wow, they "might" work!

Those should be evil! I wished I was there with you mate, I would love to be hunting Spring Blackies in Idaho. That is about the funnest and most relaxing hunting there is.

They'll work. They don't blow apart and if they go through 4 phone books they will go through the vitals of a bear. Phone books are tougher then lungs. I expect it to be under the hide on the far side because it get's so big but it might still exit. Hopefully I get to find out in about 5-6 hours. I guess I better remember my camera for pictures.

Very important! The pictures you guys take keeps me going out here!

Nothing hit the new bait but a couple bears hit the old bait which is about 200yds away from the new one. The problem is there is no way to hunt that bait and not have them smell you. My buddy had never baited before and didn't pay attention to the wind direction. Both bears were really light color, lighter than the red fox that has been on the bait for a few days, so I'm pretty sure they are a light color phase. Hopefully they are blonde. The small bear came in at 3:09am this morning and then the big one came in about an hour and a half later. The big one actually ran the small one off. They just about cleaned out the old bait and we didn't rebait it hoping they will switch over to the new bait so we can hunt it. I'm crazy tired so I'm going to bed way early for me.

One boo boo down. My buddy shot a small bear the color of the one I shot a few years back. Blonde across the back and chocolate legs and head. It was shot with his .470 Capstick using 275gr Barnes TSX's. Guess where he hit it?

I've never seen one drop so fast but I also haven't seen one shot in the noodle before. It came in on the up hill side and put it's front paws on the edge of the barrel. Then it started eating the popcorn I put on the top of the barrel earlier in the day. So the bear was facing us. When he shot it the bears head hit the barrel so hard it knocked almost all of the popcorn off the top of the barrel. It was pretty spectacular to watch through the scope.

Yeah, most of these animals don't function real well when neurological function is reduced to zero. I bet it was spectacular to watch.

Next time I'll take pictures of our, roughing it, shooting position. Camping chairs and shooting benches 165yds from the bait. Since my buddy got hurt he's gotten soft.

The anise, marshmallow, Karo syrup, and sugar coated popcorn ball was gone as was the strawberry jello, marshmallow, Karo syrup, and sugar popcorn ball. They also ate the fried chicken that was on top of the barrel in addition to some of the dog food coated with maple and chocolate syrups.

I'd think you need to put a bottle of Alka-Seltzer and Kaopectate beside the bait station. Man, if you miss a shot, the bear will just lie there rubbing it's tummy with that diet.

Well if nothing else their teeth might rot out and keep them from eating fawns and calf elk. They'll have to turn vegetarian.

Good thinking!

Wow... A .470 to the grape! Yee Haw!

Good looking color on that bear. Nice.

The skull might look real interesting...

Congrats!

Congratulations to Ross on his bear. I'd say he used enough gun.
