The baiting has begun

It's cool to use these big boomers for something because they aren't something you would normally grab to go hunting around here. I shoot my .416 a lot but have very few rounds through my .458 Lott.

That 458 is a steam roller for sure! I am dieing to hunt black bear in ID with my Guide Rifle. Nothing compared to your beasts, but I really think the way I hunt bears it would be about as perfect as it gets. Something to be said about 400+ grains of persuasion!

Let me know if your coming out next spring Scotty. I have another bait site we shot 2 bears off of a couple years ago. The one I have on my wall and another huge black bear. It's head was bigger than the P&Y minimum but not big enough for B&C. It had a broadhead in it too. I've baited there several times over the last 15 years or so. I only baited in this new spot because of the number of color phase bears. My buddy had pictures of a black and a true blonde last year plus some other guys who hunted the same area last year shot a huge cinnamon and a chocolate. I really want a true blonde bear but I'd shoot a big cinnamon or chocolate too. I've only seen one true blonde in the wild but I have a few friends who have shot them over the years.

I sure will Nathan. Can't wait. Hope to be home next Spring. It would make for a good year.. This Marine thing is always in the way of hunting season it seems!

"This Marine thing is always in the way of hunting season it seems!"

I understand. Missed a lot of hunting seasons, birthdays, anniversary dates, holidays, etc., while deployed over the years. At our 10th anniversary, my wife and I figured out I'd been gone almost 6 years...

Have been making up for that since leaving active duty.

Hang in there! Guy

Yeah but all of us get to enjoy these freedom's because of what you and others do. For that we thank you.

I love my job as a Marine! That isn't the problem, it is the interference of hunting season I have a problem with!

I figure I will have plenty of time to catch up in a few years anyhow. I am not sure what to do after the MC. Growing up is going to be really hard!

Maybe someone at the top needs a talking with. Those that hunt need these times stateside and those that don't can be stateside anytime the rest of the year. Sounds pretty fair to me.

You aren't kidding Guy, I could never do this much traveling without their backside support!

Nathan, I get lucky in that I will be home for the Fall, so I will have an extended elk hunt this Fall, in ID and all the deer hunting the wife can stand!

..."Growin' Up" ain't all it's cracked up to be, Scotty. You've got a really good excuse to be "developmentally retarded"...

"Run W/ It!!!"

I am not sure how to take that, but since it is coming from you, I will assume it is a good thing and run with it!

Nice work! That bear has some pretty nice color to it. I'd bleach that skull out and hang it on the wall.

He gave the hide to a friend of his but I'm pretty sure he is getting the skull if it's in tact.

I'm guessing the skull will be pretty fragile after that shot. Guy's comment is spot on--popcorn was not a healthy choice for that bear.
