The One!

Nice pic, Bill. Mine is the Number One 9.3x74R shown below with 250 gr Partition at 2550 fps, at least to 300 yards.

That is some surprisingly handsome wood, Charlie. As always, Mike, that Savage looks quite businesslike.

Thanks guys, I ordered it blind and new from Texas for $820+$35 shipping. The wood does have some figure and I replaced the mount screws with Torx and replaced the pad with a Simms. Ready to rock!

I have always been kind of curious about this caliber and with my regressive ways, I liked the fact that the 9.3x74R dates to 1905! The Conquest 2.5-8x36 fits like it was made for a caliber like this.

Charlie

Its beautiful, a very nice looking #1. Much to nice for me to carry, it would look like a boat paddle in a few seasons. I really like the look of the number 1's they are elegent and sleek looking. A great find.!!!!

Thanks Bill, I am sure that I will scratch it as well but that is what an elk rifle is for! I like the Number One's also and have not owned one for 25 years. I don't know why though? With the express type, heavy barrel contour, it should shoot?

I had to leave the express sights on the rifle and that made the 36mm Conquest, 2.5-8x36 a good scope for this rifle and the caliber.

This is the one for me!
1. Sako
2. 300 WSM
3. Bolt / M85
4. Leupold VXIII 3.5 x 10 B&C
5. McMillan Sako classic

Jager1, that is a great gun made even better with a McMillan. Very nice.

I guess I am not a big caliber guy as all I hunt is deer and a bit of antelope. If I had to pick one of my rifles for all around....for what I do....and include good looks...it would be my Sako 75 in 7m-08 shooting 140 Accubonds with the Conquest 3x9x40. My other 2 are Sako's in 308 and 280. The 280 is the best shooter, but the shorter 7m-08 is a bit handier.

Long

I no longer have a .375 Ouch & Ouch but I do have a 9.3x74R which is close enough to a big bore for living where elk are the largest game animals that I could hunt. A moose tag in Washington is a miracle draw.

G'Day Fella's,

Sorry if I'm about to repeat what somebody else has already mentioned, I only read the first post on this thread!

I would get a Blaser R8 and 10 or 15 different barrels, bolt heads etc!!!

Doh!

1. Mfg. ?
2. Caliber/Cart. ?
3. Action ?
4. Scope/Size X ?
5. Anything else needed?

My perfect rifle is still out there somewhere.... A few essential ingredients.

1- Beautiful... nice wood (walnut or laminate), nice deep blued metalwork, nicely done overall.
2- Bolt action Remington 700, sub-MOA.
3- Powerful enough to take elk, deer and antelope out to somewhere past 300 yards, but not a hard kicker (i.e. 308, 30-06, 7RM).
4- Variable scope 3-9 or 4-10. Probably Leupold.
5- Not so nice as to live in fear of getting it wet or breaking it in a fall.

Fotis, I was mainly looking for an opinion on what people feel is the ideal rifle for them no mater
where or what they're hunting.

Thanks for all the complements on my "ONE" rifle.
I must confess I'm really a Winchester M70 fan at heart but I've really been liking the Sako stuff lately. IMO the machining is 1st class on them. I've been really wanting a Bavarian carbine in a
270 win. Maybe someday?

No question about it, Sako makes an excellent product. The new Winchesters are very good, however. I'd be content with all new Winchesters.

I have Winchester, Sako and Mauser. All three are certainly well crafted and handle just right for my needs. I think the choice between them is personal and maybe features. Caliberwise, it is the game that you are going to hunt which often decides how large you want to shoot, caliberwise. The Sako Model 85 is a very nice rifle and I have a Sporter in .338 Federal.
