Thompson Center coming back

Looking forward to seeing these again! I have several Encore pistol barrels and one rifle barrel. They're all shooters! Pic attached was a doe shot at 130 yards with 257 Roberts and 110gr AccuBond.

Very nice. Is that Ol' Georgia Jim furniture?

The very first high-powered rifle cartridge I ever shot with was out of a 243 Contender pistol, and then the same round out of an Encore out to 400 yards. Also blew up a tree with tannerite with it
contenders were made in 243? never heard of that, thought they were just 223 sized rimless cases and rimmed cartridges.

I have two of the first version of the contender, a 30-30 and a 44 Magnum with the shot choke on the barrel. I never had them updated to work with newer barrels. I killed a few quail with the 44 and javelin and coyotes with the 30-30. Perhaps they would be able to update them.

I have a contender with several barrels and an encore with rifle and a 410 pistol and 338 pistol barrels. If I draw a cow tag anytime soon I might try that 338 federal on it.

I’m interested some. What do you got Patrick?
I can look tonight when I get home, but I believe it's a TC Contender, 35 Rem, Pachmayr stocks.
I picked it up several years ago because I have 35 Rem in a few Marlin 336s, but I have never shot it or scoped it.

Hi All. I'm inexperienced with the Contender though I've owned one. I just recently pulled out my old but excellent shape original Contender pistol out of the back of the safe that I bought used at a gun show about '95 with a 10" .410 shotgun barrel. It was fun a few times (I rarely hit a skeet- not easy) but now I want to update it with a 7mm-08 rifle length barrel or similar. I know the regs have changed over the years and are confusing. As I understand, currently (Nov '24), I can change an original Contender pistol into a rifle and back to a pistol- correct? If so I'd like to get a 16 to 20" barrel (preferably 7mm-08 but 7-30 is ok) and a rifle stock. I'd also like to be able to put my pistol stock back on it to use on a WY pistol only hunt without having to get a pistol length barrel for one hunt. Is this ok by Fed and WY regs?
My frame is the original. It doesn't have the needed hammer safety. How can I get a hammer safety put on it? Can I buy a replacement hammer with the safety? There used to be available these plastic safety caps that pop off. Are there still?
Any advice on updating my old Contender is much appreciated! Thanks!

They certainly made some accurate guns.
My Contender 7-30 Waters shot it's best group with a 140 gr BT, it measured .225".
My Omega 50 Cal Muzzleloader would consistently shoot sub 2" groups at 100 yards.
TC should do well.

My Omega shoots ridiculously accurate with 150 grain of tripple 7 pellets and the original 300 grain shock wave. First three shot group all went in a .2” hole at 100 yards! I bought a 2.5-10 Nikon Monarch when they first offered the BDC reticle. I had to call Nikon to get the drop measurements with the circles at 10x. This was just when they first started out and they didn’t have any ballistic programs or any published information other than reading the two page directions that came with it. After them telling me the drops I sighted in three and three-quarter inches high at 100 yards. Went out and zeroed it in 3.75” high at 100 yards with all shots touching again. I then shot dead center with all the circles 200, 250, 300, and 350 yards. I shot a three shot group for each yardage. At 200 yards I shot a 1.5/8” group, 250 yards I shot a 2.5” group, 300 yards I shot a 2.5” group, and it opened up at 350 yards with a 12” group. I tried 350 yards a few times and I was always 6” off enter in every direction at 350 yards. I tried the same load with my buddies stainless omega and the encore version. One shot a .5” group and the other a 3/4” group at 100 yards.
